From Oceans to Autumn, Upcoming Releases, HTML, Outer Limits

So the big news is From Oceans to Autumn is on Silber & we’re starting things off with a free EP called The Flood/The Fall.  They’re somewhere between shoegaze & heavy metal.  Here’s a video:

Been spending a bunch of time the past few days working on press releases & such, more news about that as the releases actually become available.  It’s looking like I’m going to get things back on track for getting some new content available for you all fairly soon with some things I’ve been meaning to do for quite a while as far as making digital versions of some out of print stuff from Silber artists available.

Working on a couple of html things on the website that should make things work a little better for everyone.  Going to add an RSS feed on the QRD front page & make our mailing list joining form have the ability to specify what you want to know about (e.g. comics, music, or QRD).

I just saw this episode of The Outer Limits that I dug:

Mini-Comics, New Music, Bubble Breaker, Tumblr, Starblazers

Unless I get some more folks contacting me requesting promos (which may happen) I’m done sending out the physical promos of the new mini-comics.  Next week I get to start doing the follow-up.

I got my comics listed on the Belfry Comics Index & evidently have gotten a few new readers.

I wrote a third script for Ultimate Veggie Dog Saturn & got new drafts worked up of the other two & sent off to Jason.  I also wrote a short little script inspired by a friend’s old apartment in Chicago & La Jetee.  I think maybe I should do an anthology of comics inspired by La Jetee.  I love that film.

I’ve been working on some behind the scenes things for getting some new music up on the Silber site.  It should happen soon.  Hopefully by Monday at the latest.

I added a Bubble Breaker game to the games section of the Silber site & I also added the ability to play Silber music on all of the game pages.

I just signed Silber up on Tumblr.  I don’t know if it’s worth anything, but friend or follow or whatever the heck it is over their if you use it as it seems to not let me use my own address book to import contacts.

Martin reviewed the live action Starblazers/Yamato movie over on Finally Checking It Out.

Mini-Comics & Boys Night Out

Been spending most of the past several days assembling the mini-comics for promo & getting the packages out.  I went with an “opt-in” promo list instead of my standard huge list to cut a few corners in the budget.  I don’t imagine it will cost too many reviews much less sales.

James & Martin from Plumerai were in town the other night & we went to a local bar that had a guy with an acoustic guitar covering 1980s dance hits & power ballads.  It was strangely pleasant.

I drank one of the leftover Silbeers from a month ago & it seemed like in that extra month it may have gotten too bubbly.  I am not a big fan of bubbles, but when I tried one of the beers post brewing without the final carbonation that wasn’t too great either & I’m realizing proper carbonation of a beer is as important to me as taste & texture.

One Response to Mini-Comics & Boys Night Out

  1. GoddakkAttack says:

Today i heard one of the songs he played that i couldn’t figure out. It was Blues Traveller

mini-comics & postage woes and cars

I bought a car and it was probably the best purchase i have ever made. Car’s are so useful for traveling around I have never used a car and just wanted a little something interesting to do that is just comfortable for my heart and mind. I received my present from the company as a gift and just need it to get out of there and make some progress with my own business. Thank You for taking a look on this. My wife is interested. Thank you Very much for your work. Love, Laura I am just a little disappointed in the quality of the goods that your gifts have delivered from, they all did not make any sense. WOW!! I received the present in such good condition. The only way it was that old is if of other items. It is an extremely valuable item, I really have my eye on one piece and am very pleasantly surprised that this will be taken care of properly.  Voluntary car insurance in Thailand is probably as cheap as it gets right now in the current state of affairs.

Made up the promo sheet for sending the physical copies of the comics out & got a few of them sent out. I also did a bunch of research checking on addresses & finding a few new contacts. I’ll end up spending the next few days trying to get those packaged up.

I found out at the post office that the rates have gone up on my mailings as of this past Monday. About $0.20 higher to mail a single CD domestic. I don’t feel comfortable going over $12 a disc. So I guess I’ll just eat the little bit of extra costs. It’s going to kill me on the promos though as it’ll mean an extra $60 to send out the same amount of CDs I normally do. So does that mean I should send out 40 less CDs or just pay the extra money? Maybe (fingers crossed) there will be 40 reviewers that have switched to digital downloads over the past year & it will solve that dilemma.

I can’t remember if I mentioned on here that Jason Young asked me about writing some scripts for his auto-bio comic Veggie Dog Saturn, but I wrote first drafts of two for him today.  One about a dying rabbit & another about trying to get a girl pregnant.  Neither of which are true stories as far as I know.  Speaking of fake auto-bi stuff, I’ve also been thinking about writing another story for my Robert E Howard auto-bio comic.  I’ve become quite enthralled with Howard as a writer, historical figure, odd character, & human being.  At the same time I don’t think Howard & I would get along in real life; then again I don’t think I & anyone would get along in real life.

XO, Keychain Camera, Remora, Vlor, Roland, Ampquest, Dogs

So I got a final draft of XO #8 done & laid out & sent it to Melissa to draw. So that’s just two comics I have out waiting for art to come back. I need to get on the ball with writing.

I finally checked out the video I shot the other day using my keychain video camera & I actually think it looks pretty good.

I also got the Remora track for Jason Dube’s comic Caffeine recorded (I’ll get a link up when I know what’s up with it) & recorded a couple demos for the next Vlor (maybe it’ll happen in 2012?).

I tested out the new 60 watt Roland keyboard amp & it seems a lot louder than the Alesis amp was.  I haven’t tested it for the Small Life Form set yet (which is the main reason I need it), but it may be a match.  I also went ahead & ordered one of those orange Roland bass amps from the 1980s.  Evidently I really like Roland as the only large amps I own are Roland.

I was talking to one of the mini-comic reviewers that prefers the digital downloads about why she prefers the downloads & she told me that she lives in eastern Europe & when she orders things there’s only a 50% chance of them arriving.  Which is a twist on downloading I forget about.

Here’s one of my favorite videos of all time, I hope you dig it.

Remora, Outer Limits, Dream

So I spent several hours this morning working on the little sculpture I’m thinking of using for the Remora: Scars Bring Hope album cover.  Not 100% sure on it yet.

I got in another mastered version of Scars Bring Hope & there’s still a couple bits I’m not sure about.  But the album should be ready “soon.”

I just saw this episode of The Outer Limits that I thought you all might dig.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m visiting a friend’s parents (which makes me think she’s my girlfriend) & she gets in an argument with her dad & drives off leaving me there.  Her dad ends up giving me a job working as a house painter for a business he runs.

Mini-Comics, Mixing, QRD

So I finally got the digital promo page up for the mini-comics I’ve done in the past year.  Emailed to the couple hundred comic reviewers I know asking them if they wanted the downloads or physical copies.  A lot of the folks aren’t reviewing any more since it’s been a year since I sent out any comics to press folk.  So the promo machine is really about to start rolling on those & then I’ll be getting some more stuff going on the music front.

I got an alternate mix done based on Andrew’s recommendations for the last song for our father & son album.

There are some extra interviews for QRD coming in.  I’ll let you know when they’re up.

Not everything I wanted to get done happened today, but it means I have something to do tomorrow.

QRD, Ampquest, Comics, Tornadoes, Dream

So the new QRD is up.  It’s an Easter special.  Interviews with Christian artists about balancing their faith & art.  It’s been fairly well received, which I feared it might not be.

Speaking of QRD, I’m looking for suggestions of people to contact (meaning you have their contact info) for the next installment of the musician dad series.

Also speaking of QRD, I’ve been thinking about that I should do something to make it a more pleasing reading experience.  Any suggestions.

I sold the Alesis amp today for $20 more than I paid for it.  The other amp I ordered is supposedly going to get here tomorrow, so we’ll see if my amp quest is complete or a never ending journey.

I wrote a song for Jason Dube’s comic book Caffeine soundtrack today.  Hopefully I’ll get it recorded soon.  I was asked to do it over a month ago & I think he actually first asked maybe six months ago.  Ooops.

Doing some work to get the promo ready for the mini-comics.  I’m slower than I’d like to be at everything these days.

People keep asking me about the tornadoes that were here where I live.  To my knowledge I don’t know anyone significantly effected.  One did touch down about five miles from my house & there was a piece of an aluminum roof from somewhere that was stuck in a tree in the yard & fell down the next day.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m on tour & staying at a hotel.  I wake up because I’m having trouble breathing.  I get up & look in the mirror & my nose is swollen & purple & obviously broken.  How did I not notice that happening?

Amp, QRD, XO, Dream

So I went to this “musician’s yard sale” thing & picked up a pretty cool little analog synth called a Hohner Bass 3.  I also got an amp by Alesis called the Sumo 100 & evidently a 100-watt Alesis amp is half as loud as a 60-watt Roland amp?  Hopefully I’ll be able to sell the Alesis for what I paid for it.  So my amp replacement quest continues.

I got most of the work done for the QRD Easter Special today & it should go live Monday.

I finally finished a first draft for the new issue of XO, I still need to type it up & get it to Melissa.

I came up with a crazy idea for a concept pedal that I’m going to shoot by a couple more tech savvy friends & see if the idea will work.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m doing a live show with Tara Vanflower & I’m running so late that I didn’t get to practice & get on stage five minutes into the performance.  The show is called “Halloween Beach” & there’s all these little Barbies on surfboards & blow-up dolphins all over the stage.  I crawl into my work station as inconspicuously as I can.  I have a four-track mixer, an old keyboard, a 1980s computer, & then a bunch of little wooden dowels that control some of the toys that are up in the air.  Tara starts singing a song & I get lost in the story of a boy who goes to the beach terrified of sharks who makes friends with a dolphin & stops being afraid of the ocean.  His family goes home without him & then he gets a job at the hotel where they were staying.

Small Life Form, Stan Brakhage, Fathers & Sons, XO, Remora, Veggie Dog Saturn, Dream

I knocked out a few Small Life Form tracks for the comp Ben Collins is putting together about Stan Brakhage.  One is a thing where I set up some optical theremins & played Mothlight & another is using magnets over a tape head.  So concept pieces.  Which I’m always torn about as I think concepts are often done at the cost of the music.  But when there’s a concept comp, I feel like it’s more important to hit the concept than the right notes.

I also got some work done on what may be the final song for the album I’m doing with my son Andrew.  It’s called “Cause I’m Your Dad” & I’m kinda hoping that he may come up with an equivalent song, but it’s a lot to ask.  I think it’s easier to step in as the 33 year-old dad of a 20 year-old son than it is to step in as the son in the same scenario.  To be honest, I have no idea what a son’s duties are ever supposed to be.  But I have some idea what a dad is supposed to do.

I got a little more work done on the new XO script.  Certain ideas change slightly when I realize how much space I have to tell a story.

I listened to the proof for the new Remora record from the mastering guy.  I’m pretty pleased with all but one track.  So I need to get my act together on the artwork & maybe get it out for manufacturing next week.

Jason Young asked me to draw a comic for the next Veggie Dog Saturn.  I also might write one for it (which is funny because it will be an auto-bio story about Jason, but I’ll just have made up the story).

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m hanging out with Brian McKenzie & I’m trying to play “Black Betty” (written by Leadbelly, but made famous by Ramjam) & the sound coming out is right but there is no way the sound from the guitar matches the fretting on my left hand (when I woke up I tried the chords (E open, A first fret, D third fret & E second fret, A first fret, D third fret & it sounded more dissonant than Jandek).
