More Mini-Comics to read.

Got out all the invoices to my distros for the end of quarter, so hopefully I’ll get some more money flow coming in from that.

I converted some more of the mini-comics to digital, so here are some links for you:
Poit – WTF
Poit – La Jetee
Small Art Series I
Small Art Series II
Poit is stickfigures drawn by Dave Sim & then I wrote two scripts over the top of it.  Small Art is from the paintings I did for the art show last December.  So tomorrow I should finish getting things ready for doing my comic promo.

I got an email from Derek Sivers (the guy who started CD Baby) asking for me to send him a track to use in some new ebook thing he’s working on saying I was one of his favorite folks he’d worked with on CD Baby.  So I have to wonder if the email went out to 100,000 people or 100 people.  In my defense I have been in touch with him as a blogger since he left CD Baby, so it could be a legitimate contact.

I talked to Nick Marino & I’m done with my side of the first issue of our Deadpool mini-comic.  Well, except that we don’t have a title for the limited series or individual issue….

Comic Scripts, Low, Mead, Dream

I got the paperwork part of the royalties for this quarter done, just got to get the checks out.  Hope to get the invoices out to distros in the next couple days & then I’ll be caught up on paperwork for the end of the first quarter.

Did some work on the Deadpool script & on a new XO script.

It’s also worth mentioning that Low’s new album came out today.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but I got it.

I ordered 10 pounds of honey, which I think is about enough to make 20 liters of Silbeer Mead.  I don’t know what the occasion will be when it’s time to drink it.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m reading a copy of one of the Benjamin Franklin Bibles.  One of the ones where Franklin added a lot of his own text including his own extra books.  To call the writings heretical misses the point.  They are about the feeling of self-empowerment that is central & essential to america, democracy, & satanism.

Paperwork, Doctors, Mini-Comics, Rollerball, Dreams

I spent most of the day working on the quarterly paperwork so I can get out the royalty checks to artists & the invoices to the distros (which I hope to get at least one, if not both of, done tomorrow).

I took my grandmother to the eye doctor today to get her eye-drops for her glaucoma renewed & the eye doctor had this rant about she couldn’t just check the eye pressure & renew the prescription, that she had to run a bunch of other tests.  Then when she realized my grandmother’s communication skills have fallen off enough that she couldn’t do any of the tests she stopped hassling us & just renewed the prescription.  I don’t understand people in the medical industry thinking they understand things better than patients/caregivers, but probably if they didn’t feel superior they’d never enter the field in the first place.

Here’s a couple more digital comics for you to read.  Monthly, which is my favorite thing I’ve done lately, & XO#7.  Probably this is a spot where it’s worth mentioning I recently upgraded to the new version of the Acrobat Reader & I don’t like it very much, so I’ll definitely get the CBZs up of the comics eventually.

I recently added the Alexa toolbar to see if it would raise the Silber ranking & it did so in such a ridiculous way that I feel pretty valid saying Alexa’s rankings are totally useless.

Here’s some recent footage of Rollerball playing a show.

Last Night’s Dreams
I’m trying to make pizza, but the dough won’t rise.  I keep adding more yeast, but I think the yeast might be dead.

I almost crash my car into a car carrier that is hauling those tiny euro-cars because I misjudge my distance from it because the cars on it are so small.  I slam on the breaks & twist & skid & then I try to get my car moving before somebody rear ends me.

Taxes & Downloadable Comics

So I guess I finished my taxes today in that I found out Silber made so little money (part of this is that I had a couple of distros that went under last year that owed me some money that I had to eat as a loss) that I don’t legally need to file federal taxes for 2010 & I’m going to assume the same is true for the state.  I don’t know if I should send the paperwork in anyway since it’s done.  It’s kinda depressing because it makes me feel like I don’t exist in a certain way.

I’m working on making the digital versions of some of the new mini-comics so I can get the promo campaign going for that.  So here’s Lost Kisses #21 & Ultimate Lost Kisses #12.  I’ll be getting you some more as the week goes on.

I did the layout for a couple comics associated with upcoming Silber Record releases, we’ll see if I can art in for them in time for the releases.

I got in about 300 photos from the Silber 15 year show from David Haught.  I will eventually get some stuff up for that.

Amp Death, One Second Comp, Deadpool, Dream

I think I’m starting to feel like I’m in a swing where I might accomplish things.

So I had a gig last night using my Small Life Form rig & my silver amp died. Took it apart & plugged it in & watched the smoke come out of it. Then the power light went out on it. I think that if I look at the price of the amp (about $200 back in 2000) I definitely got my money’s worth as it’s probably been used at around 200 shows over that time.  So I ordered a potential replacement amp I found on Ebay for $130.  It’s another Roland.  I’m thinking about eventually getting a bass amp as well at this point.

My buddy Pete sent me a link to this article by the Dilbert guy about what people should be doing in college if they want to be successful.  I think it’s worth the five minutes to read it.

Finally got the Azalia Snail off for manufacturing.  Need to knock out the press release & all that.

I got a draft of my Deadpool fan comic thing over to Nick Marino.  I think it comes across as good & fun.  I realize I’ve let myself get pretty far behind on certain elements of my comics as far as writing & promoting lately.  One day I’ll get things going again.

Almost done with my taxes & then I need to get on the ball with my first quarter paperwork (musician royalties, sales taxes, distro invoices, etc.).

Me & a bunch of random friends & strangers appeared on this comp of one second long songs.  I think this format on YouTube is the most intriguing & interesting version of a release of it.

Last Night’s Dream:
Driving a borrowed car (possibly a Trooper?) in the snow & I spin out & break off the driver’s sideview mirror on a mailbox.

15, Taxes, Strokes, Comics

Okay, so Silber 15 went fairly smoothly.  The live stream didn’t work for reasons I can’t understand.  That’s what I get for trying to run modern website stuff instead of sticking with 1999 like I normally do.  There are some video & audio recordings from the event & I plan to get them up over the next few weeks.  Here’s a first one (audio quality is lacking) that PD Wilder shot with his phone.

I’m trying to get my tax paperwork underway.  That’s my big hope to finish for the week.  But I ran into a problem that a PDF of a 1099 from my one bank gives me a corrupted file message.  I guess I should have checked that back in January when they sent it.

In the “holy crap my life is bleak” department I got home from the show Sunday morning & ended up winding down to sleep around 5am.  At 7:15 I’m woken by a knocking on my door because my grandmother has had a stroke during the night & fell out of the bed & is on the floor shivering & non-responsive.  I pick her up & get her in the bathroom to get cleaned up & then bundle her in covers trying to keep her warm & hold her physically still for a few hours while she’s occasionally hyper-ventilating in a residual panic attack from the event.  After a few hours she seems to have stopped shivering & can respond to questions by shaking her head (though not with words) & I am able to get some juice in her.  Everyone in the house (including Jon from Aarktica) seems a bit shaken up by it & I’m just walking around saying, “It’s no big deal, death is a part of life.”  Which I feel is an attitude that gets me in trouble on occasion when people nearly die in various ways & I think it’s no big deal.  But as some of you folks may know, I have had quite a few totally crazy health experiences the past couple of years & I have the same attitude about myself.  As soon as my grandmother passes I’m ready to get a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) because when my time has come I’m okay with it & I feel that’s the way more people should be.

NEW COMIC IDEAS:
So the whole thing above gave me two new comic ideas.  One is about a time traveling child assassin who kills kids that would otherwise be detrimental to the continuation of the human race & he’s running into a problem in the early 21st century because people are so obsessed with keeping their children alive that it’s hard to kill them in a gentle subtle way like he has through the majority of time.  The other idea is about a guy who runs a business selling single doses of infectious diseases to give to enemies/ex-lovers/co-workers/whatever.   Both are meant to be comedies in the same way XO is meant to be a comedy.  What do you think?

One Response to 15, Taxes, Strokes, Comics

  1. Nick Marino says:

Both great ideas. MAKE THEM BOTH!!!

Azalia Snail, Remora, 15, Mead, Thorn1

I got a little more work done trying to touch up an image for the Azalia Snail cover (it was a super tiny image (300 pixels) that I needed to blow up to a proper size to use with printing & then get rid of the noise in it & sharpen it a bit, a headache to say the least).

Made a setlist for Remora for Saturday.  I’m going to try to cram 8 songs in my 30 minutes along with five guest performers.  I might end up needing to cut a song or two.  Three of the songs I’ve never played live before & I haven’t practiced with any of the guest musicians, so the possibility of screwing up is endless.

I also got the name tags printed out for Silber 15 & some special sale price order forms for attendees (that way I don’t need to take stuff to sell).  Updated to get the webstreams going on the page (now it has the ability to have 4 cameras running simultaneously), but running into some technical difficulties with getting phones to work on Ustream.  But hopefully they’ll get straightened out tomorrow.  Also I got a nice right up about the show in the weekly here.

I got all of the mead bottled up.  I just am labeling the caps for now instead of making labels for the bottles.  That way people can see what they’re getting from the top of the cooler at least.

Got in a video from Thorn1 for putting up at the Silber show.  Of course I need to make a DVD of it, which always takes longer than anticipated.  It’s a pretty ridiculous video, but fun.

Remora, Interns, Azalia Snail, & Comics

Got in a few minutes of practicing for the Remora set on Saturday.  I really need to make time for myself to play guitar every day.  I’m always shocked how much I like it when I do it.  Also there are going to be some guest musicians on some of the Remora songs.

I got some work in from one of the Silber interns & did some corrections for bits of the website.  I’m planning on making a few new things that people should like for the website, but it’ll take a little while to figure out exactly how to do it.  Things that will make me able to have new & constant content without effort.  We’ll see if it works out.

I got a bunch of work done towards the cover art for the Azalia Snail disc.  I have a problem where I love PageMaker which Adobe abandoned probably ten years ago now & to design anything I need to back convert templates into Pagemaker & then import the files into InDesign (which doesn’t recognize some font features like kerning & I have to adjust things to make up for that).  I probably should just learn InDesign.  Or of course I guess there’s the whole abandoning making mass manufactured CDs which sometimes seems like the easier thing to do.

I did some work on the script for a comic I’m working on with out beloved Nick Marino (Superhaters)

haha where’d my comment from yesterday go? or was it just not approved yet?

  2. Nick Marino says:

damn but now i sorta forget what i said… oh, but it did include this — two words, as in Super Haters, not Superhaters!

& in hits the fan…

So as some of you may have noticed, I haven’t been seeming to get quite as much done the past couple months as I traditionally have.  Well, there’s a reason (I think it qualifies as a reason rather than excuse & I’m very timid to use that term).  As a lot of you know I help take care of my grandmother & have for years.  There’s also a couple CNAs that come in to help her.  Over the past couple months my grandmother’s mind (she has dementia) has been getting to the point where she’s more combative & harder to deal with. We were giving her some nootropics that work by enhancing brain function, improving cognitive processes such as memory, learning, and focus. . In the case of dementia, these supplements help slow down the progression of the disease by reducing inflammation in the brain. Which in the case of someone paid to work with her means they are less inclined to give her the care I want her to have, which means me needing to be more hands on in her care (by more hands on I mean getting to spend more time cleaning a naked 94 year-old woman after she’s crapped her pants).  While I had been able to previously dedicate close to 6-8 hours a day on Silber, it’s now getting to a point where it’s closer to 2 hours a day & sometimes less as I need some decompression time after dealing with the situation.  I’m trying to restructure to be able to get things done properly, but it’s hard & in the end it means needing to be more realistic about getting things done with the increased restraint on my time & finding ways to get things done given those restraints. I went to timesunion.com and I found information about how nootropics can help my grandmother with her dementia problems so I can have a lit ore time to do my things, Some nootropics have been shown to reduce the levels of beta-amyloid plaques, which are often associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

So I’m sorry for the delays on a lot of things.  I am also letting you know that this most likely means increased limits on my live appearances (which have been on the decline the past couple of years) as a performer & that is part of why I have been looking more into the possibilities of streaming video as that may be the main way I make appearances in the near future.  So yeah, that’s what’s going on.  Now you know.  I kind of hate it when “the real world” thrusts it’s ugly head into Silberia.  So you praying types, try to remember me & my grandma every once in a while and pray that  those nootropics helps her feel better, while nootropics may not completely cure dementia, they can help improve symptoms, maintain brain health, and slow down the degenerative process.

On semi-related health news Bryce Eiman (Weather Machine) had to get a shoulder surgery that is going to keep him out of commission for a few weeks.  So he won’t be at the Silber showcase & Joe Hendrix will be doing a semi-solo (Bryce will get him some pre-recorded bits) Weather Machine show for it.  It kinda sucks to see a strong dude like Bryce out of commission & reminds me how good of a life I have.

Did some mastering for a little EP that will be coming up on Silber by From Oceans to Autumn (who I haven’t made a band page for yet).  I’d say they are a bit of a cross between Irata & Hotel Hotel.  Kinda post rock with a prog metal edge?

Still trying to get things going on finishing up the artwork for the Azalia Snail CD & getting the logistics done for the Silber showcase, but I’m kinda burned out for the moment.

Ustream, Silbeer, Dreams, & some other stuff

So today I started playing with Ustream a little more.  I’ve got a couple windows running on the 15 year anniversary page.  I was talking to Paul Schrag (Environmental Aesthetics) a bit about my ideas for some crazy stuff to do using Ustream & he was of the opinion that the time has come.  So you might see more video streams coming from me in the future.  Maybe I’ll even invest in some hardware so I can do it in a way that doesn’t look crappy.

I have a bunch of work I need to get done as far as mastering a couple CD’s & getting artwork ready for things, but lately my days have been pretty exhausting with my grandmother & it makes it impossible to get work done when she’s awake & then by the time I’ve decompressed enough to work I’m also ready to go to bed.

I need to start practicing for the show on Saturday.  I haven’t probably played a guitar for an hour in the past six months.  I guess it’s for the best as it makes me like it more when I go back to it.

I did get a Muscle Mass song done for Hal McGee’s sixty second songs compliation.  I can’t remember what the comp is called.  The song was some little glitchy beat thing I made that I thought Darren Hayman might be able to use during January songs if he ran out of steam (but he didn’t run out of steam).

I got the little device to measure the alcohol content in various Silbeers, but it ends up to calculate it you need to measure the density of the fluid before & after fermenting, so it’s too late for everything in the current batches.

Recent Dreams:
I’m selling LSD on blotter paper (sounds like it’s 1991) & I’m trying to create a psychic link to a particular hit of acid (row seven, hit number eight) so that I will be able to become embedded in the mind of the user.  But at some point I lose track of the hit I have embedded a piece of myself in & end up taking it myself.  So I’m stuck with two me’s battling for supremacy over one already fragile brain.

I’m on tour in the station wagon my parents had when I was a kid which was lovingly referred to as “the war wagon” because it looked somewhat post apocalyptic with it’s metallic blue paint peeling off to reveal metal.  I’m playing at some kind of big campground oriented festival & I’m ready to get out of the place but I’m too tired to really try to drive anywhere & I can’t remember who else is in my entourage (& judging from the car there are 4-5 more folks).  I guess I’m just going to have to sleep in the car & hope someone who knows what’s going on manages to find me.  I can’t believe how much the car feels like home.  Much more so than any building I’ve ever lived in.  Sleep comes easily in the driver’s seat.
