So admittedly I haven’t figured out how to work Twitter as far as how to get more followers, but evidently Charlie Sheen has as I hear he gained a million followers in a day.  Good for him.  I wonder if he even uses it or if it’s someone else’s publicity stunt.  Maybe I should do that.  Make a John Lennon Twitter & start off just quoting Beatles lyrics & then when I hit a million followers I can start slipping in “I really dig the new Aarktica record” or whatever.  Of course I don’t even know how to get a follower in the first place.  Anyone that knows how to build up appropriate Twitter followers, let me know.

I did just sign up for this ponzi scheme for Twitter followers appropriately titled “Free Twitter Followers” if you are interested in joining it as well.  Basically you follow 50 random folks & then are added to the list to gain random followers.

My buddy Eric Shonborn (of Gutter Trash) did a sketch & little bio of me on his sketch a day blog.

I got out the monthly email newsletter today.  I meant to mention the games on the site, but I forgot.  I guess by next month I’ll have the game section a little better.  I might actually pay money to get versions of a few games I really want on there.  We’ll see what happens.  I don’t really know if there’s any reason to do them & if anyone besides me will use them anyway.

My sister loaned me a digital picture frame to use at SPACE since the one I ordered was broken.  We’ll see how it works out & if I need one.  I also ordered a little solar powered spinning display thing.  We’ll see if it gets here in time from Hong Kong.  I am planning on making a 3 foot tall box into a display that can hold a couple hundred of my minis, so this time I’ll be a little more on the ball for making an impression than last year.

QRD, Games, Dreams

So the big news for the day is I added a games drop down menu throughout the main Silber site.  So you can now play Tron & Chess & a few other games here on Silber.

I sent out a bunch of interview questions for the next 4 issues of QRD (guitarist special, label owner special, comics special, easter special).  Some responses are flowing back in already.  I think QRD has really kicked some ass over the past year & I wish I knew how to get people to notice it & care & maybe earn the $200 a month off advertising that I’d hoped to.

Silbeer, Lost Kisses, Games

Well, tonight I bottled the first batch of Silbeer (somehow there was more than anticipated, I guess from the carbonation or something there’s more volume than what I put in) & started another batch.  The bottling is scaring me a little because I saw the episode of Breaking Bad where the home brew caps fly off & sound like bullets.  It seems that the Sam Adams bottles re-cap really well & some of the others not quite as well.  Just have to wait & see on it.

I think the games I’m going to be adding to the Silber site are Tron, Spy Hunter, Connect 4, & Tetris.  I’m still looking for a few more possibilities, but I need to find free games developed by other folks & that’s hard to come by.  Ideally they’d also let me host the files instead of just embedding, but I guess you can’t get it all.

I worked for a while on Lost Kisses #21 & about 1/3 of the pictures are done.  Always slower than I think.  When I worked my last job I would draw two panels during a five minute break & then think about the next two panels while working for an hour then draw a couple more in the next break.  Just sitting here with the pen & nothing else going on doesn’t seem to speed up the process.

I did some of the scanning of Ultimate Lost Kisses #12.  I thought I’d get it finished, but today was a high maintenance day with my grandmother so I didn’t get a chance to do much work until after she went to bed.

Oh, before I forget, Ben Collins (former Silber intern gone label owner) is working on a comp for you music making folks.  Open call, read about it here.

Funny Cats, Comics, Silbeer, Games

So this morning I was fooling around with a friend’s smartphone.  Holy cow, the Silber site doesn’t work at all!  I don’t know what to do with the knowledge as I’m aware a lot of people do a lot of their internet crap on their phones these days.  I guess just let business die slowly?

I’m getting a full refund on the digital photo frame that was DOA & they don’t even want me to send it back to them.  So you know what that means, I spent an hour trying to take it apart & fix it before admitting it is a piece of trash.

I tried out a little of the honey mead today (now five days old) it tasted about like a mimosa.  I ordered a thing to measure the alcohol in the stuff I’m brewing so I don’t have people getting too hammered unknowingly at the show.  Because if I read the recipe right, the mead ends up around 20% alcohol so if you drink that as if it’s beer you are in trouble.

I laid out the new portion for the “Small Art” comic.  Still need to print it.

I started drawing Lost Kisses #21.  I’m hoping to get it done in time for SPACE.

A lot of positive feedback on the new QRD, thanks.

I’m thinking of adding a couple more game pages on the Silber site.  Like the chess game.  Just 5 or so games that I like.  I’m not sure yet.  It seems like it’s something worth doing.  People are trying to tell me I should do it as interactive games (meaning multiple players), but that just sounds too complicated to me.

Since the internet simply would not exist without witty cute things about kitty cats, I present to you this link of cats quoting Charlie Sheen.

Today’s big thing is I finally got most of the comics digital versions up in a way that should make sense to folks.  Take what you like & spread the word.

you’re not losing any business by not being accessible on a smart phone. people go there to look at sites they repeatedly view *news, video, comedy* or to quickly search something they just saw……….nobody is going to buy your releases from a smart phone

your blog looks good on it though, it’s even converted to some mobile version.

    • Yeah, I think that though more people are doing their surfing (or at least time wasting surfing) on phones, you’re probably right on it now leading to sales. I do have to admit that WordPress automagically looking good on phones is probably a good reason to use it, but I’m not going to try to convert my 1997 Silber website style into WP. But It does make me think that maybe I should convert QRD to it so people can read interviews on their phones, though I don’t see myself spending the time to try to do that unless people start to buy ads for it & I can justify the time it takes.

QRD, Small Art, Myspace, Thorn1, Remora

So the big news is QRD #48 is up.  About 30 interviews with indie/mini comic book folks.

So I’ve been working on my “Small Art” comic series & each story I had as an individual 12 page comic.  I have 5 ready & was going to put all five in one bag, but it’s end up they don’t all fit.  So instead I guess I’m going to put three in each bag & I need to make up another “issue.”

I finished doing the MySpace contacting of the however many thousand folks I thought might be interested in following Silber in other ways.  I think I got about 3 new friends on Facebook, 2 new people on the mailing list, & 5 new followers on Twitter.  I really wished all the hours I’d invested in MySpace I had invested just in focusing on Silber proper.  At this point I feel like checking my MySpace account is around as important as checking Bebo or Orkut or Friendster.  Live & learn I suppose.  Which is a big part of why the Silber Facebook presence is nominal at best.

I got in the tracks for the Thorn1 EP to master today.  More news on that “soon” (as they say).

So speaking of mastering, I got in the “sample” masters for the Remora album.  Here they are, I would appreciate input as far as if anything stands out as amazing or they all feel about the same.  It’s the same song & same mix that went to everyone.

Small Art, Small Life Form, Remora, Weather Machine, Dreamland, Photo Frame, What It Is, Postal Scale, Low Frequency Microphone, 15 Year Show

Trying to get a bunch done lately.

Laid out my “artsy” comic stuff called “small art” (at least I think that’s what I named it) that is narratives & abstract art.  Five separate issues in color.  I’ll get digital versions for you guys to look at up at some point.

I got this digital photo frame that I was planning to use for the comic convention to make things a little more interactive on my table.  I found a good deal on a refurbished one, but somehow it is completely DOA (it does not turn on).  I hate the headache of returns. & since it was through the mail, I have to wonder if I’ll be able to get a functioning replacement in time for SPACE.

Our good friend/ally Zac Keiller who runs Dreamland asked me to share this link where you can listen to some of the stuff his label’s been up to.

My postal scale is having some issues.  Maybe it’s trying to send me a message from the future, but I can’t figure it out.

There was some discussion over on the What It Is blog that I was involved with recently on booking gigs & hipsters.

I just ran across this article on how to turn an amplifier into a low frequency microphone.  I thought some of you would be interested.  I don’t think I have the type of amplifier to easily do what they’re talking about unfortunately….

I talked to Peter Aldrich & he seems pretty confident that He’ll be able to set up some kind of streaming thing for the 15 Year Show.

I don’t know what’s up, but in the past couple of weeks I’ve been asked to do a Small Life Form release for Blondena Music & a Remora release for Dark Meadow Recordings.  Things are rolling with them happening well enough that I feel comfortable mentioning them.  The SLF will probably be sometime relatively soon & the Remora is slated for February 2012.

Here’s a video of the end of Weather Machine‘s show from last night.  The guy who comes up to shake the band’s hands at the end is Scotty Irving (Clang Quartet).

So at the Weather Machine show I got to hear a great story.  As some of you may know, Bryce Eiman of Weather Machine is my father (though he didn’t raise me) & Andrew Weathers is my biological son (I didn’t raise him, funny how history repeats itself), anyway Bryce goes to a Borders that’s closing & this kid sees a Pacific Before Tiger sticker on his car & asks him about it & Bryce tells him, “Yeah, I know Andrew, I’m good friends with him.”  As the conversation continues he reveals that he’s actually Andrew’s grandfather.  The kid looks at him really puzzled & says, “I’m his brother.”  The world’s a little too small sometimes.

B12, Silbeer, XO, QRD, Lost Kisses, Armored Trooper VOTOMS, Jamie Barnes

I feel like the B12 might be working as I feel like I had another productive day.

On the Silbeer front, today I was working on a Honey Mead (Silbeer 002) & Fermented Root Beer (Silbeer 003) (which I’m thinking of calling “Weaponized Root Beer” or “Fully Realized Root Beer”).  I’m hoping everything tastes good.  I thought with the mead I’d be able to make it on the chip, but honey is pretty dang expensive & I think if I dig it I’ll have to find a way to get it in much higher volume.  I also finished up with cleaning up the empty bottles for the first batch.

Talked with Melissa for XO today & the artwork for the new issue is supposed to be in the mail tomorrow.  I also was discussing some ideas with her for a few future projects, we’ll see what comes to fruition.

Got in a few more interviews in for QRD & proofed them.  Just waiting for two (that I know of) to come in.  So the Monday launch still seems on schedule.

I finished the layout for my nephew’s Star Wars comic.

I got the final draft for Lost Kisses #21 laid out in boxes so I can draw it.

I also spent a couple hours looking for more comic book reviewers for my promo list.

I put up a review of Armored Trooper VOTOMS on Finally Checking It Out.

Here’s a promotional video about Jamie Barnes new praise EP that is doing well in the Christian music charts:

If Thousands, Freeze Pedal, Dream

I got an email from Aaron Molina of If Thousands that they are working on a new release to come out this year.  They also have a new website up here.

Got more work done today on the upcoming QRD.  Most notably typing in the answers from Dave Sim (he doesn’t use email).

Working on the layout of my nephew’s new Star Wars comic.  I still have to do the layout for several of mine….

Anyone know anything about this Freeze Sound Retainer Pedal from Electro-Harmonix?  I kinda like the idea of it, but have little trust in their modern pedals for lasting long enough to be worth buying.  I still haven’t even bothered to switch out my old Boss Octave Pedal for the POG I got maybe 9 months ago in my rig.

Last Night’s Dream:
I think it’s after the apocalypse.  I’m riding in the backseat of a Suburban that’s been converted into a monster truck & we’re driving through the Redwood Forest & it seems that about 25% of the trees are laying down so even in this truck we can only go a couple miles an hour.  For some reason we’re talking about the movie Dig & I say that I thought the girl in The Dandy Warhols was cuter before I saw her with her top off & I like naked girls as much as the next guy, but some girls look better clothed.  At this point I notice the girl driving the truck is naked from the waist up.

    Large Marge?

  2. No. I know the girl, so I feel I shouldn’t mention her name; but she actually does look somewhat similar to the girl from The Dandy Warhols – though at least in the dream her boobs were better.

  3. Better than the Dandy Warhols set. It’s been fifteen years since I’ve seen the girl, so I’m not sure I can trust my judgment on them in general.

Lost Kisses, Silbeer, Muscle Mass, Deadpool, B12, Dream

I got a lot done today, or at least I feel like I did.

I got an email about doing a version of that song “For the Love of Money” for a potential film placement.  While I realize how whack & silly it would end up to bother to complete it in the way I was envisioning (I had in my mind to make it be something like Attrition), I did get to a certain point in it.  Probably working on it (& music in general) is why I feel like it was a good day.  Here is the track (more fully realized than when first posted on Twitter):

Finished off the first draft to Lost Kisses #22 (part two of the time travel arc).  I probably should be working on finishing more comics rather than writing new ones to draw, but that’s okay.

In other comic book news I worked on my Deadpool mini a little & called up Nick Marino (who is drawing it) about ironing out some of the details for making it slightly more canonical.  You tend to get some facts wrong when you have read 3-4 stories about a character who has appeared in 200 or so stories.

In yet more comic news, I got the artwork from Jason Young for my nephew’s new Star Wars mini-comic.

I wandered around the neighborhood tonight (tomorrow is recycle day) looking for brown non-twist-off beer bottles to use with the Silbeer industry.  I found 21.  Predominantly Sam Adams.  Very few beers actually seem to fit the parameters.  But 21 is my magic number as I theoretically have 256 ounces (2 gallons) of brew & 21 bottles is 252 ounces (I imagine I’ll lose 4 ounces the sludge that lives in the bottom of the brewing keg).  In related Silbeer news, I talked quite a bit with Joe Kendrick (WNCW) about home brewing as he used to do it quite a bit.  When I was talking to him about it, his scope goes way beyond mine right now.  He was brewing 200 beers at a time instead of my 21!  Even throwing parties & making Christmas gifts that sounds like a huge batch to me.  But he had some tips that I maybe implementing sooner rather than later.

I talked to my brother today who has similar sleeping problems to me & he said he bought some B12 vitamins & he feels a lot better after 2 days.  So I think I’ll get some tomorrow.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m listening to j-pop song (presumably the theme song for a giant robot cartoon) & it has the lyrics:
She’s so beautiful & sweet
But she walks with bodies beneath her feet
Where will she go now?
Where will she go?

QRD, Lost Kisses, Bar Karma, YouTube, Sarah June, Azalia Snail, Dreams

Well, I’ve spent the majority of the last couple of days proofing the interviews for the indie/mini comics issue of QRD.  Reading other people’s answer I feel a bit better about the issue than when I just answered the questions myself.  Over 20 interviews with a few more possibly trickling in.  It’ll go up next Monday.  It’s interesting to see how productive some people are & makes me feel really behind on my comic output.

Speaking of comics.  I made the digital versions of all my minis that can easily be done as such.  The first three issues of Lost Kisses don’t have original layouts anymore, just the versions for printing & would take a while to convert.  So I’ll get to those when I get to them.  I’d rather spend that time working on some of the other comic projects I’m behind on (which are quite a few) trying to get them ready in time for SPACE.

I saw that new show Bar Karma on Current.  Basically it’s Friday the 13th the Series or whatever else all over again.  So it’s better than some things & worse than others.  Feels like it’s a show that would be better if I dropped in on an individual episode in the second season instead of seeing the first episode.

I read this article that confuses me a bit about YouTube & it’s effect on music.  I don’t understand how people get 100,000 views & 10,000 subscribers & then act like it’s a natural occurrence.  I think there’s a secret to being a successful YouTuber (or blogger or whatever) where it almost works that if you are a successful YouTuber, maybe you should try your hand at music more so than if you are a musician YouTube can save you in this floundering industry.

Speaking of YouTube, here’s Sarah June’s new single/video which is more or less a rap song.

Azalia Snail wrote a New Zealand tour diary for Silber that I need to post up soon.  Just need to get it formatted & such.  It’s on my short list of things I need to do.  So maybe tomorrow?

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m Burt Lancaster.  I’ve robbed a bank (or possibly a jewelry store) with my girlfriend & we’re holed up at an old farmhouse with the cops surrounding us.  I’ve got a pistol with only one bullet left in it.  I tell my girl that it has two bullets in it, one for her & one for me & I’ll go first.  This way I can take the fall for everything & she’ll be able to go on to a better life.  I put the gun in my mouth & pull the trigger.

i think the secret is to have videos people want to see/share.

also having people you let know about the video that will also not just chuckle and leave it at that but will actually be the type to be like “duuuuude check this out” helps.

    • Yeah, I need to get some a new kitty cat to feature in all the new Silber videos. I’m going to have him sitting on a turntable as it spins around. Or dress him up in clothes. Or both. Maybe give him a harmonica to hang around his neck like Bob Dylan. The possibilities are endless.

Alternatively I should cover 1980s post-apocalyptic cartoon theme songs because they are identical to Remora lyrically. But in order to do that I’d probably need to learn to play a song with more than two notes while singing at the same time….
