Flash Games, Flash Music, Comic, Mead Doc, Remora, SLF, Dreams

So I added a bunch of games & such to the Silber site for you to waste your time on – Motorbike Racing & Stupid Space Age on the game side & then on the fooling around with music there’s a drum machine, a drum kit, & keyboard chords.  If you want to get funky, put all the audio stuff in different tabs & use them all at the same time.

So I realized the ten year anniversary of September 11 is coming up & it’s been making me remember it a bit.  So I wrote a script for a mini-comic about my experience that morning.  Maybe I’ll even draw it this week.

I talked to Kirk Adam & he wants to do a mini-doc about me making mead.  Should be fun.  We’ll see how it ends up.

I did get mixed a couple tracks for a comp by Small Life Form & Remora.  Gotta master them a little & send them to the label tomorrow.

I heard this hip-hop song on the radio today & I kinda dig it.

Last Night’s Dreams:
I’m Walter White (Breaking Bad) & we’re running a heist of a sporting goods store to try to attract Gus for a confrontation.  Badger is supposed to shoot Gus with a bow & arrow.  What could possibly go wrong?

I return a rental car & my friend Jessie picks me up from the car rental place.  First time I’ve seen her in at least five years….

My mom pulls a tick off her back the size of a ball bearing.  When I look at it, it’s actually robotic rather than organic.  I crush it with the heal of my shoe.

The governments of the world denounce patents/copyrights/intellectual property laws.  My whole idea of how to make money to stay alive is going to fall apart.

Software, Free Comp, Coupling, Flash, Dreams

I’m still trying to get all my software installed on this new machine.  Waiting to hear back from Sonic Foundry about if I can get my software put on this machine (I feel like putting it on a fourth machine in nine years is on the cusp of not being reasonable & to be honest I can live with it only being on my music computer, it’s just convenient to be able to have it on my laptop if I need it) & then getting a friend to help me with a few things that I had on the old machine & couldn’t find my installation discs for & then hopefully I’ll be up & away.  I’ve actually been thinking a little bit about abandoning the Microsoft Office Suite for Open Office.  But I guess it’s easier to stick with my 8 year old versions that I know how to use.  I did upgrade from Netscape Composer to Seamonkey Kompozer (or whatever it’s called) & I suppose in a week or so I’ll figure out if that’s going to work or if I need to try to track down Composer for my HTML WYSIWYG.  The reason to try the upgrade is after editing files I needed to adjust the code by hand every time to accept some of the slightly fancier code I have in the site.  I am hoping Kompozer (theoretically the continuation of Composer) doesn’t add a ton of extraneous code in the way things like Dreamweaver do.

There’s a new free digital compilation out from I Heart Noise called Theory of Everything that includes a track from Thorn1.

I got in my copy of Coupling from Silent Media Projects & it looks pretty stellar.  I was talking to Ben Collins (former Silber intern gone Silent Media label owner) about how great it looks & he was saying it ended up costing a lot more than he thought & he essentially needs to sell them all at full retail to break even.  So if you have $14 extra dollars you should buy a copy.  Also he did a series of interviews with a bunch of the people involved with the comp about how they came up with their contributions & their relationships with Stan Brakhage; here are the ones from Brian McKenzie (Electric Bird Noise), Brian John Mitchell (Small Life Form), & Ben Link Collins (Silent Media).

Did a little research on some flash music things that I’m going to add to the games section of the Silber site soon.  I don’t know if anyone but me will waste their time fooling around with them.  But I like the idea of one day having an office job & making beats on a drum machine all day long.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m watching an interview with James Hetfield (Metallica) & he’s wearing the same dress shirt that I am (one with wavy lines in black & gray).

  2. Wait, there really was an interview with Hetfield where he was wearing my shirt?

Catching Up

So I’m starting to catch up on some things with my new machine having a couple of softwares I need on it.  Got about 100 promo emails out today & I need to go through the rest of my inbox to see if I can get out a few hundred more messages tomorrow.  Still doing some bits on this machine & some bits on that machine until I get things straight & that’s more than a little tedious.  I imagine in a couple weeks I’ll forget about the whole thing, but I’ll miss the weird steampunk look of my silver Gateway with battle damage.

Clang Quartet, Rollerball, Dreams

So I got this new machine & trying to get my software on here & running is a bigger headache than I anticipated.  All I need to get some work done is to get my emailing software to work & for some reason it’s not happening & tech support doesn’t seem to want to get back to me since I revealed I already followed the directions in their FAQ.

Clang Quartet has up a little video form a recent New York show you can check out over here.

In other free stuff you can listen to news, Rollerball has a live show you can listen to over here.

Recent Dreams:
There’s one of those Russian elevators the size of a broom closet & I’m carrying my grandmother & trying to get her to squinch up so I can get us to fit in.

I have a diagram showing a series of colored circles involving where all the hornets within two miles of my house & I’m walking around stomping on them with my shoes.

Marvel Comics hires me to write a sequel to Atlantis Attacks (summer crossover event from the 1980s) starring Ghost Rider & Bucky.  WTF?

I have more severe autism than I actually have & so I’m a ward of the state.  The state is paying for me to take driver’s education, but the company is actually a front for three folks who rob stores in strip malls & I become part of their crew.

A Couple Things

Worked a bit on a cover song for a comp appearance today & for some reason my headphones weren’t working.  A lot of technical difficulties lately.  Also running into problems with too many tracks running for how I have the computer set-up.  I don’t know.  I need to figure out if I want to change things to push things further at home or just figure I’ll save that for going into real studios.  I’m beginning to think more & more that I want to do things that I just won’t be able to as long as my studio is just a part of my bedroom.

Made the sales blurb stickers & barcode stickers for the Jon DeRosa & Remora discs.  Getting some out to distros tomorrow.  Hitting stores soon….

Built, Babies, Irata

So my computer still is in purgatory.  I tried to do some work on this loner machine & it won’t let me edit & save a text file?  WTF?  & it won’t recognize my printer?  So I’m getting a bit behind on my work.  Hard to believe it’s only been dead a week.  The potential new machine is supposed to arrive Monday.  At which point it will take “a while” to get on the software I need for it to be useful to me.  So I’m still hoping to get my old machine back so that I can leisurely migrate to the new machine….

I wrote a first draft for a script of Built #2 today.  So a little something productive done.

Since I guess it’s big news about the hurricane here near me, it had no effect on me, it mainly effected folks a couple hours east of me.

I think that this week (or at least the past couple) there are some new citizens in the Silber empire.  New babies from Mike VanPortfleet/Tara VanFlower, Jamie Barnes/Kelsey Barnes, & Shaun Sandor/Magdalena Eftimova.  So yeah, kinda crazy that it’s all at once.

Saw Irata last night.  They’ve really stepped it up a notch in the past couple of months.  The funniest part of the night was probably me sitting in the baby seat in Jason’s truck for a ride to my car in the rain.  I’m kind of a skinny dude.

Comics, Apple Mead, & Dreams

I got a bunch of second drafts done on some comics & sent three scripts off to artists!  So it feels like I’m getting something happening.  I’ll try to get some more scripts written tomorrow.

Still not sure of the status of my laptop’s resurrection.  There are a few things I really need to try to get done & I’ll need to figure out how to rig something if it’s not coming back as I need to make some blurb stickers for sending out the new releases to stores & I don’t have the software to do it installed on this loaner computer.  Just wait & see on it I guess.

Made up a new batch of apple mead to brew using chopped up apples instead of apple juice.  I guess I’ll just wait a couple of weeks & see if it’s a success.

Last Night’s Dreams:
I’m looking at the wikipedia article for AC/DC & I find out they have a new album that came out on Tuesday.

I’m at a buddy’s house & I’m giving him my new phone number & the area code is 828 & I’m trying to remember when I moved back to the mountains.

Comic drafts

So until I get a regular machine back up, I’m continuing writing a first draft of a comic more or less at the rate of one a day, but today was special.  I got drafts finished for Worms #7,  Marked #3, & Lost Kisses #23.  LK#23 is going to be a weird one as it is an emotional rollercoaster that is hard to add the typical LK comedic twists to.  It’s about Andrew’s mother.  No idea of course when I’ll get any of these laid out for artists, much less drawn & ready for folks to read.  But I feel good about starting to write every day again, which I don’t think I’ve done since I was 23….

Work & Dreams

Trying to work on somethings on my old graphic design computer because it has Word & Excel on it while looking up the information on this netbook web-use-only loaner from my sister.  It works okay for putting in stuff about the radio stations contacting me back or whatever, but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as copying & pasting emails for contacting a few hundred people which is something I need to do.  Hoping to get my machine back tomorrow.  In the meantime I did order a new refurbished laptop.  So either way in the next week or so I should get some things back on track.

Got an email from Martin Newman (Plumerai/Goddakk) that he’s going to try to do a music video for the song “Future of Man” from the new Remora disc.  He’ll probably get it done before I get my video done for “My Brother’s Guns & Knives.”

Recent Dreams:
I’m on tour with my son & we’ve both been drinking too much to drive, so as the dad I’m driving because that’s how things work. We make it to our place to sleep for the night & the place is littered with people sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags. In the morning I wake up at 7:05 so that I’ll be able to get things ready for us to go. My shoes have been stolen during the night & the only ones I can find in the house that fit are these white ones with blue stripes on the side. I go out to the car & all the equipment we took out to get to our luggage is outside of the car just sitting there, we must’ve forgotten to put it back in. I reload the car & go look for Andrew amongst the sleeping bodies in the house. I wake him up & tell him it’s time to go or we’ll miss the show tonight. He’s ridiculously hungover & I have to carry him to the car & have him sit with a plastic bag in his lap in case he throws up. As I’m driving & Andrew is semi-conscious he keeps muttering the word “transactive.” I don’t even know what the word means.

I’m in the airport having just got back from a euro-tour with Something About Vampires And Sluts.  We’re looking around trying to figure out where Michael is & then we here him screaming.  We see him through the frosted glass of the TSA office & he’s naked & being held down by two agents & raped by a third.  WTF?

Another Computer Down

So Saturday night my internet computer went down with a hard drive crash. Luckily I have it partitioned in such a way that I didn’t lose any data. Kinda funny it happens just a week or two after my music computer crapped out. Anyway, I’m trying to decide on trying to fix it or getting a new machine or both. The machine is seven years old & it’s lived a hard life (going on tour isn’t great for a laptop, not I imagine is bringing it to a dirty old warehouse to work on during lunchbreaks for 4 years) & has been dropped a few times so the CD drive doesn’t work & it developed an over heating problem (solved with one of those cooling fan things to set laptops on, but I was told the overheating issue may have contributed to the hard drive problems) & of course the battery doesn’t work anymore & it has a replacement power supply that makes the audio inputs really noisy (not the jacks, but the actual signal has a loud noisefloor that wasn’t there with the original power supply). Still I love that machine & hope to get it back working, but if I need to re-install windows from scratch & re-install all of the software I feel I maybe should do that on a new machine instead of waiting for the next catastrophe on the old machine (the power brick going bad again would be $100 & it seems possible). But it is funny that seven years later that machine has the same processor speed & RAM as a lot of the budget machines today instead of just being totally obsolete. I have nothing bad to say about it especially given the fact everyone I know seems to have just switched out to at least their third machine since then. My sister loaned me this netbook for the week for checking orders & such (I always get confused when people have computers without the programs I need to work on them – no Excel, Word, Pagemaker, or Sound Forge? sigh) & I can tell you that I will miss the matte screen from my laptop as I think the idea of making screens that you could look at & work on all day instead of these modern shiny glass ones that burn your eyeballs went out somewhere along the way. So I’ve been spending the past two days trying to repair my computer & writing some comic scripts, so at least I should have something positive come out of the whole scenario. Maybe also finally write some more reviews for the Nostalgia & Checking It Out blogs. So I’ll smell you all later.
