Rllrbll & Teddy Bears

So I worked on updating the Rllrbll page a bit & more importantly got everything finished up so you can check out their free EP Murwa Mbawa.  I hope you dig it & cas spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Spent several hours working with Peter Aldrich on the stop motion video for the Remora song “Teddy Bear.”  I had a teddy bear tied up with fishing line to move it marionette style & so we had to have arms fully extended to move him around while not being in the shot & it wears your arms out faster than you’d think.  In the end about a minute of footage shot.  We’re going to try to finish it up next week.

    I have this same problem playing the accordion. by the time i’m practiced enough to record it, i’m too tired to do it.

    I hear Dick Contino used to spend time doing push ups to be able to play his accordion properly. But yeah, accordion is a freaking stamina game for sure & that muscle in my chest where my right arm hooks in will hurt for three days if I play for a couple hours….

I don’t know what’s going on, but I had a half-dozen spam comments on the blog today that I had to delete.  Not just on a single entry, but seemingly random entries with random names & email addresses.  Maybe someone has figured out how to outmaneuver the spam-blocker I have installed.

So I was just talking to Monte & Mae & found out Rollerball has changed their name to Rllrbll.  They’ve been using the no vowel thing as short hand for probably ten years now, so I guess that’s why I hadn’t noticed the change.  Working on stuff for their free EP & I’ll need to update their webpage as well.

Did some drawing tonight for Vigilant #2 (the artist for #1 backed out & I think it might just be a two issue thing, it certainly needs a second issue to give the story closure).  It seemed odd to me trying to draw a non-stickfigure sequential art thing.  I think the last time I tried was in 2004 unless you count Small Art Series which is completely abstract.

So I’ve been watching Tales of Tomorrow a bit on YouTube since I finished watching The Outer Limits.  I’m not sure how I feel about it.  I know it’s from 1951 & historically important & influential to science fiction stuff, but I’m six episodes in & haven’t seen one that I’m really sucked in by.  My mom told me the show from that era that I should watch is one called Lights Out, so maybe I’ll try that one soon.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m hanging out with a girl I’m friends with & she casually mentions she was struck by lightning when you were four years old & she remembers how it felt right be fore hand with her scalp starting to crawl & her trying to shake the itch out like a bug.  I’m confused at her never telling me the story before.  I tell her, “If I’d ever been struck by lightning I’d introduce myself to people as “Brian John Mitchell, the dude that got struck by lightning.”" Also we both have rural Mississippi accents for some reason which the girl pulls off as endearing, but on me just sounds like white trash.

There is what seems to be an anti-haunted house in that there are always more people coming out of it than going into it.

I am on some kind of drug (the feeling is similar to the state of mind I get when my temperature breaks 103) & there are some metal sculptures that I walk to that from the distance I thought were cacti.

QRD, Blogging, Remora, Rollerball, Dreams

So I’ve been thinking about offering a top banner ad on QRD that would be full branding & with the way I code it’s non-ad-blockable.  Usually around 12,000 visitors a month lately.  So do you think $50 would be a reasonable rate?

Did some more research on bloggers to contact for promo when the time comes.  I was also going through & adding the tags to more of the Silber blog’s old entries.  Both things are pretty tedious & not so fun.

Went through & got the track order done & such on the Remora remix EP.  Still need to make the digital booklet & press release & such.  It should be up in a day or two.

Rollerball has a special little 3 song/3 minute EP called The Beefer up from Voices Green and Purple.  I’ve been thinking about doing a similar EP series on Silber.  Maybe 5 songs in 5 minutes.  I guess I need to catch up on some other things first though.  In fact there’s a bunch of Rollerball stuff I’m supposed to be working on here that I haven’t had a chance to get around to as far as making digital versions of a lot of their out of print back catalog available & a brand new free download release.

Last Night’s Dream:
I wake up on a mattress on the floor with an alarm clock going off.  There’s a double bed next to me & some naked dude jumps up off of it & turns off the alarm clock & walks out of the bedroom.  There’s another dude on the bed & he has on some beat up yellow t-shirt & boxer shorts & he says to me, “Oh, you’re up.  Sam didn’t sleep here last night, so I figured you’d want to sleep on his bed.”  I realize that my head hurts & I must have blacked out & I feel dehydrated.  I don’t even remember drinking last night much less where I am or why I’m there.  I get up & wander around the house & realize it’s a musicians’ house with way to many people living in the house.  I find a bathroom & I look in the mirror & I have blood on my face & a swollen bruise on the top of my head like someone dropped me on my head on concrete.  What the hell happened last night?  & is my brain bleeding on the inside?

Michael Jackson’s sister (or maybe it’s his cousin or niece) that I’d never heard of before is at the Neverland Ranch shooting a video for her first single in the middle of the night on the roller coaster.  Michael comes out of the mansion in pajamas & slippers & tells her she’s making too much noise & keeping everyone up.  He pulls out a gun & shoots her in the head & walks back to bed with the video crew slackjawed.

Comics, Marked, Dreams

I finished the mechanical bit of making the spinning portion of my comic display.  Which took a lot longer to do than anticipated because I don’t have a drill press & I couldn’t get some holes drilled as straightly & exactly as I needed to make the thing work.  I also assembled a bunch of mini-comics.

I got in the artwork for issue three of Marked from Jeremy Johnson today.  So it should be ready for the art show next week.

Hung out with Peter Aldrich today & he’s supposed to help me with a video for the Remora song from the Christmas comp later this week.

Last Night’s Dreams:
I open the center drawer of a desk & there’s a two inch buck knife, but the center inlay that is normally wood is made out of glow in the dark plastic.

My mother is acting weird.  In such away that I know it is someone else inside her in control pretending to be her & not quite pulling it off.  She’s possessed & when I summon the demons out of her they are about 50 of these tiny things that look like pieces of kids’ cereal some are shaped like marshmallow ghosts & others look like animal cracker monkeys.  What am I supposed to do with them now that they’re out?  Just leave them on the table & floor?

Comics, Bass, & Dreams

Spent most of the day assembling comics for next weekend & then doing some work trying to improve my display thing to make it sturdier & so it can spin around (since it now has more than two sides of comics & I want to get all of them to fit on it).

Played bass for about an hour.  I need to get myself set back up so it is easy to properly record song ideas & start working on music as it really does seem to calm me down.

Last Night’s Dreams:
I’m cutting through pieces of pipe at a workbench with a hacksaw.  When I finish my work I look at the table & I’ve been shortening barrels to rifles & shotguns.

I’m in the ocean & the water is rough.  At low points the water is only up to my waist, but on waves it goes well over my head.  I see a dolphin swim next to me close enough that I could reach out & touch him.  His skin looks slick, but unlike the dolphins I’ve seen in aquariums he’s nearly completely covered in scars.

I’m working on math sequences.  Trying to give order to random numbers.  Some of the sets of numbers have multiple possible answers.

I hear a noise & go downstairs.  My grandmother’s room has been re-arranged as my mother did after my grandmother died, but my grandmother is alive & sitting on her bed.

I’m not wearing a shirt & someone asks me about the scars all over my back & chest & I say they are the typical results of being a sci-fi soldier.

Blogging, Remora, 1984, Dream

So I’ve started working through the old blog entries from before the migration off of MySpace & adding tags & categories to them.  We’ll see if it ends up getting Google to drive some more traffic towards it.  Plus it will help me or anyone else interested to figure out some things from these past several years that the blog entries go back to.

Doing some more research on bloggers to contact for promo.

The Remora video was featured on Foxy Digitalis.  Which is pretty exciting to me, but according to YouTube it only generated about ten views.  One day I’ll figure things out for getting people to care.

I stumbled across this BBC version of George Orwell’s 1984 from 1954.  Worth watching as you drift to sleep.

Last Night’s Dream:
The high E string on my guitar has a horrible rattle where it’s hitting the fourteenth fret.  I don’t even understand how that happens because I have my action so high people think my guitar is unplayable.

    well i think you’re mistake is thinking people on the internets are looking for something that is good/quality work. When really they’re only looking for things that are 1.) funny that they can share with friends 2.) porny or 3.) cute animals.

Got some work done on the Remora: My Brother’s Guns & Knives Remix EP.  Hoping to have it all done soon.  One of the delays is I have absolutely no idea who did one of the tracks & that’s kind of embarrassing.   The remix by the unknown artist is titled “Soccer Mom Remix” in case whoever you are is reading this.  But it’s kinda funny because it’s going to be 14 mixes of the same song, which is a bit ridiculous to expect anyone to listen to.  Though my thought is people will download it & I’ll have a better chance of it getting played on random shuffles.

Also working towards a couple of other free releases for a couple other artists on the Silber roster.  More news on that when it actually happens.

Tried to do some work on drawing an issue of Lost Kisses.  90 minutes to draw two panels.  I need to find a way to get motivated about drawing.

I just saw this episode of the 1980s Twilight Zone about past life regression & I liked it for some reason.

Last Night’s Dream:
I’m sitting with my grandmother on the couch.  I get up to get something & when I come back she’s chewing on a guitar pick that had fallen out of my pocket.

I made some beats for my hypothetical doom band.  Called up the bass player about trying to make it actually happen.  We’ll see what’s up with it.  I may end up being the only member of yet another band….

Started assembling a bunch of mini-comics for the exhibition in two weeks.  Going to need to work on my display a bit more so it can hold all the comics.  Also of course actually working on some more comics….

Still researching some bloggers, trying to make it through one letter a day….

Last Night’s Dreams:
I’ve built a studio in the basement & my brother tells me that modern keys & locks break too easily & I should get ones re-tooled from 1960s locks.

There’s a plague that’s broken out in Los Angeles & one of the symptoms is a full body purple rash that looks like a tribal tattoo.  I’m at a party & it seems everyone has the rash & are getting as drunk as possible & fucking.  The government is set for a nuclear strike at 7am.  I somehow manage to finagle a ride on a small prop plane with five strangers to escape the city.  We’re flying to the south along the ocean & larger aircraft trying to escape are being shot down so we’re flying only a few feet from the ground.  The ocean is washing back in the fuselage from the shot down aircraft.  The sun is starting to come up, I don’t know if we’re going to be far enough out to survive or not.

I’m hanging out with Sarah June & we’re making tassels by hand for on the fringe of a dress.  Just sitting around tying hundreds of knots.

QRD, Blogs, Reading, REH, XLK, Dreams

So the new QRD is up.  It’s part five of the guitarist interview series.  I’m thinking about re-working some of the QRD material into ebooks & seeing what happens.  Also thinking about offering some full branding ads on the site that are valid a month at a time on every page since the permanent placement ads aren’t selling.  But of course who knows if those will sell either….

Doing some research on blogs to contact for promotion by going through all the sites who contribute to Hype Machine.  I don’t actually read music blogs very often much less keep up with what ones are cutting edge & it’s interesting to see the shifts there is in blogs every couple of months.  It seems like Soundcloud is getting to be really important to a lot of bloggers as the way they put music on their blogs.  I have to wonder if part of that is caused by the player that I used to have on this blog (which is the same player a lot of people use) crapping out a couple of months ago with the latest version of WordPress.

Last night I read half a novel for the first time in probably three years.  It was a nice feeling to be able to relax enough to do that.

I got the layout done for REH #2 & printed out the first batch.  I’ll still need to make the digital version for you guys & put up the link to sell it.

I got the layout done for XLK #2 & sent it to Nick Marino to draw.  So I’m getting some things done it feels like.

Last Night’s Dreams:
The local priest is staying at my house sleeping on the couch & using towels as blankets.  He tells me a story about his brother Tobit & asks if I know who Tobit was in the Bible.  I tell him of course I do & about how I read the story to a protestant girl I was going out with (the Book of Tobit was taken out of the protestant cannon in the 1600s) & she freaked out about it saying that the idea of an angel that could deceive someone was non-Biblical & that angels looked like columns of fire & I told the girl that’s only because her Bible is incomplete.

I’m packing up my computer & printer so that I can work on my comics somewhere.  It’s a pain in the ass & I’m scared I’m gonna forget a cable or drop the printer & break it or something.

I wake up & there are two things hovering over my chest.  One is a small bright light & the other is a shadowy hulking monster.  I wave my arms frantically & they both dissipate into the air.  I’m not sure which one was trying to protect me nor which one was attacking me.
