remix opportunities & random crap

For those that are interested here’s a

 
to the “best version” of the song I did with my nephew yesterday.

Recorded a song for a friend’s Christmas comp, we’ll see if it makes it.

Got another lead for Plumerai getting a track used in a movie.  Another case of just waiting to see how it goes.

Hotel Hotel has changed their plans for their remix EP a bit.  They’d planned on doing a hip hop oriented remix thing, but now they’re planning on the hip hop record to be a little further down the line with a special loop kit for it & going with a more standard multi-track remixing way of working.  So anyone interested should contact them about working on a remix.

The Small Life Form show went well last night.  Portions may be used for the live EP.  If anyone who took photos could send them, that would be great as I might use them for a bit of the artwork.  Not sure yet….  Hoping to finish working on the EP by Monday.

Time to get to work, 60 emails behind again & I need to work on the SLF EP  & the mini-comics.

I got a show tonight, so I need to make the blog entry a little early.

Filled some orders today & did some more work with promo for the HH & NV.  I’m not sure that job will ever finish sometimes.  It starts to feel like the money a lot of promo shops charge is worth it at times.

Recorded some stuff with my niece & nephew today.  I could probably salvage a decent pop song out of it, but it’s hard to get them to perform with consistency.  Oddly enough the drum part my nephew wrote sounds like Joy Division (it’s basically all toms), which is cool.  We recorded for an hour & then I spent an hour getting it edited down to be listenable.  Best line from my nephew: “It was such a surprise you were still alive & I was so happy & pleased.”

Time to get ready for the show.  Hopefully I sell some cupcakes.

interesting info

Some good potential things going today.  A lot of work done for a “holiday.”

I got a lead for getting a Plumerai song a television placement & the band was on the ball for getting me the needed lyrics, so that’s nice.  If it happens I’ll probably end up let down by the quantity of money & exposure.

I got a thing that looks like it’s going to work out for physical distribution in France.  The company is promoting the Christmas comp to help start some buzz before picking up releases.  So, we’ll see how it works out.

I did some follow up emails today for the Northern Valentine & Hotel Hotel & I got about 50% response back as opposed to on normal days I get 20% response.  So now I know that holidays are when to do follow up for record reviews.

I need to still work on the comics & I have a Small Life Form show tomorrow night at the Nightlight that I haven’t really practiced for yet.

Oh yeah, here’s the biggest news.  Remora‘s new seventy minute piece Ensoulment is out now on Ping Things & available for free download here.

not the shape

Spent the day just catching up on emails as I’ve been neglecting them for a couple days just working on the Christmas comp stuff.  So now that’s caught up & I realize I’m way behind on follow-ups again.  Working is like work sometimes.

Have a couple little typos that people caught on Winterizing & I’m about to fix those.

I need to find out how to add Google Analytics to my site so I know if the ads I placed are working (I hear it works better than the normal analyzer I use (Weblog Expert), does anyone know if that’s true?).

I tried to do some pull ups today & realized I’m letting myself get out of shape.  I used to do twenty & stop because my hands hurt, now my arms hurt at three.  I guess I have been letting myself atrophy for several months.  Maybe my heart is smaller too.

I wrote a brief synopsis on the life of the lead character from xo (big secret, he is sometimes called xo)  for Melissa Gardner (who draws it).  Looks like I might be able to get it done in about 101 issues.  So maybe before I die at the rate things are going, or maybe slightly after….

Got invited to do a few art exhibits today (three exactly, but a few sounds better).  So I guess maybe I need to knock some paintings out in the next two weeks.

Free Christmas Comp is Ready!

Well, the big news is that Winterizing (our 2008 Christmas comp) is now available for free download & distribution.  26 track & about two hours.  http://www.archive.org/details/silber069-winterizing

Received the artwork for xo4, so I should have that ready pretty soon.

There will be a couple free EPs up in the next few days as well.  Thanks for your support.

I found a bunch of my favorite (& sadly discontinued) pen under my couch today.  So that means more Lost Kisses soon.

I just realized that maybe I should check out my old beloved Digitech PDS delay pedal & see if it can do the sonic blanket sound I want.  If so, maybe it would be worth it to get that turned into a true bypass & bring it back on the pedal board….

working on working

I meant to post about this yesterday.  Saturday I went to a music store to check out the Electroharmonix Holy Grail Reverb.  I don’t know if they are all a piece of trash, but the one set up to test certainly was (turn the knob up & it just produces a feedback tone whether your guitar volume is down or not, the volume of the tone directly related to the amount of effected signal).  Doesn’t give me too much confidence in it, especially since my Bass Balls was an exclusive to my house & never part of my live rig & it crapped out on me.

Built some boxes for holding my mini-comics today as they were totally chaotic for keeping track of to sell.

Filled some orders today & had to print up some more catalogs.  I’m not really sure if they work for boosting repeat sales as I planned.  Of course I guess the economy is a little questionable as a couple of my friends have been laid off in the past week.  Sounds like a perfect time to start a brewery.  Does anyone know if it’s true that home-brewing makes your house really stinky?

Gotta work on getting things finished for the Christmas comp today.  Need to convert everything to MP3 & finish the art.

So I have a couple little art projects here at Silber involving things you might otherwise just throw away.

(1) I’m looking for some digital cameras. So if you’ve recently upgraded & have one that functions & would otherwise throw away, why not mail it to me? The ability to shoot short video clips & having a display screen on the back & functioning in windows xp are kind of integral.

(2) I’m looking for 3.5 inch action figures. I need ones with screws in their backs (not rivets & not glued torsos). I believe GI Joes & Micronauts were both made this way. Broken arms or whatever are potentially fine as I may need to do a bit of mixing & matching. If participating in this project & you want one of the final product, please include $1 for return shipping.

action figuring

Made the new little Christmas Silberspy & took some photos for the Christmas cover.  So that release is getting pretty close to ready, but a lot more to go in the next few days.  I’m not sure I’ll have it ready in time for people going on their Thanksgiving trips like I hoped to.

Been hanging out with Brian McKenzie (Electric Bird Noise, etc.)  this weekend bouncing some ideas around.  We’ll see what all happens.  He thinks I should push the mastering & promotion services I generally offer only to friends to a more commercial venture.  Maybe he’s right.

Need to get my act together in the next few days getting the interview questions for the new QRD ready.  People have been saying I should do more with telling the Silber story or something, so maybe I’ll do a friends interviewing me thing if any of you have any questions about my music, the label, or my comics.

Cleaned up Silber Warehouse 3 (aka – the living room) a bit as things are pretty well winding down from needing to assemble packages for the new releases.

Still need to put the Christmas tracks in order & make the cover art & get all the info from artists.  So next week it should all be ready to go live for free download before Thanksgiving.

Does it seem weird that I send websites ads & ask them for invoices to pay for them to be placed & only half can respond in a timely manner?

Not sure what else is going on… something I’m sure…..

freaking out

So I spent about three hours today freaking out about my computer.  I thought my CD burner was dead, but then it ends up some of the submissions to the Christmas comp were at 24 bit instead of 16 bit & so the cheap burning software I use didn’t know what to do.  I remember ten years ago that  the software would let you burn at a higher bit rate & then the CD player would flip out later.  Not sure which is better.  Time for some sleep….

where times go

I’ve been feeling like I’m fighting getting a cold for a week & I think it might kick in tomorrow as my body hasn’t been regulating its temperature too well today.  So maybe mastering while having mild audio hallucinations isn’t a good idea, maybe it’s a great one!

Designed the Silber ad for Outside Left today, we’ll see if it generates some sales.  Putting up a bunch of ads theoretically, so maybe it’ll help things or maybe I’ll go a couple hundred more in the hole.  It’s funny because I keep realizing lately that people think Silber is at the level of Kranky or maybe even Temporary Residence & I’m not sure if I should play it up that I am that big or just tell people that I’m just a guy posing as a label.  I’m just a guy who finances manufacturing, arranges distribution, gets radio play, gets reviews, & occasionally sets up shows & interviews & then pays you if the release breaks even.  Oh wait… I guess that means I am a label….
