Clang Quartet, Remora, Disney

The Clang Quartet documentary “Armor of God” is now available for you to watch.  It was of course made by Jim Havercamp & Brett Ingram back in 2001.

Though I know the new Remora record isn’t even officially out yet, I’m thinking about the next one & I’m thinking about trying to do something in a Disney style, something like this:

Speaking of Disney, if you watch one canadian tween show about supernatural stuff, I suggest My Babysitter’s a Vampire.  Somewhere between Radio Free Roscoe & Strange Days at Blake Holesy High.

it’s nice that the boy looks like he’s in the Misfits.

  2. Maybe he even is in the current Misfits? Who can keep track?

  3. Peter says:

It’s great that the documentary is finally available. Just a few weeks ago I was looking for it and came up empty.

  4. Yeah, I’m glad that it’s around for more people to see. It’s weird to think how much & little has changed in the ten years since then.

Trees, Promo, Consulting Gurus, AutoReverse, Promute, REH

So the reason I haven’t been posting lately is a tree in the neighbor’s yard was struck by lightning & it fell down & hit my house (no structural damage, but it cost $300 to get the tree off of the house & the yard is a bigger mess than usual).  It took out the internet connection for 5 days or so.  I probably should go a week without using the internet more often.

I just finished packing up the current promo wave for radio & tomorrow I’ll start sending out the ones for press.  So I feel like I’m getting some stuff done as things are going out of the house!  We’ll see what happens.

So I was just listening to this guy with a tutorial on how to get more web traffic who says he makes a quarter million a year as a social media advisor.  All of his tips were essentially about how to get things not even to the level of Silber (goal of only 30,000 visitors a month on the website?).  I guess my problem must be not knowing how to get people to give me money at this point if it seems like I should be getting enough money to retire per year based on this guy’s ideas.  One day I guess.  I mean, I know what some of the problems are with Silber as far as me not being pushy to sell things as I guess I should be, but whenever I look at other people’s stuff they seem to be doing things even worse.  Of course they are usually doing better than me financially & I think it really comes from Silber not doing much music that could even vaguely get classified as popular nor generally even genre specific in a popular genre (e.g. punk or metal) & I never got friendly enough with hipsters to make the music hip.  I guess I should become a consultant.  Somebody want me to consult on something?

I did an interview for AutoReverse (mainly about Remora) last night.  Check it out here.

I meant to post about it earlier, but Promute (Shaun Sandor, former Silber intern) has a free release out on Zeromoon you can get here.

I laid out & printed out the test copies of my Robert E Howard mini-comic.  I need to make a webpage for it.  Soon, soon, soon.  Too much work to do….

QRD, Quarterly Work, & Dreams

I just got “finished” with QRD #51.  Interviews with indie comic creators this time out.  I hope you dig it.

I got a big portion done towards the quarterly paperwork, so that’s a big plus.  Still have to send invoices to the distros & figure out royalties for the artists.

I need to stop thinking about how much work I have to get done & just sit down & get it done & stop complaining.

Last Night’s Dreams:
James Gleason (old character actor) is working as a photographer staging hoaxes & I have lost all my credentials as a real reporter & am working on stories to make his photos more credible to sell to conspiracy rags.

I’m hiding from zombies sleeping in a car in the middle of the day.  It’s cold & if I freeze to death I guess I’m a winner.

After the apocalypse we live underground.  I live in a space the size of a casket.  But there are parts of the underground glowing with beauty where the aristocracy stay.  I try to go into the aristocracy’s realm of beauty in search of a private bathroom, but instead find an olympic size swimming pool glowing like it’s filled with plutonium.

End of Quarter, Pauses, Glocks & Xylos, Metallica

I just realized it’s a new quarter which means another 6 hours of work to stack in my workload.  Crap.

I got in the loose art for the Remora & started assembling them.  A lot of work before the promo wave is over, that’s for sure.  So I might skip blogging a while to have a little extra time to work on things.

So I ordered these new mallets for my new glockenspiel & I got these tiny little things that I’m sure I’ll break if I ever try to use them in a live performance.  I guess I should just make my own mallets out of super balls some pieces of pipe.  Also I noticed the glock goes lower than the average one, but is still not as deep as I’d hoped it to be.  Also I got some bits for making my old xylochime be playable again.  (I don’t even know if that thing can be heard on any of the old Remora stuff?  Maybe on the first cassette Anaaron that I’ve never made digital or even CDR versions of?)

Martin just wrote a piece up on Finally Checking It Out about Metallica.

Working & Dreams

I sent out some emails to stores about stocking the new releases today.  I basically haven’t had time to do an overhaul updating those contacts in a couple years & about 10% of the emails  bounced back.  I wonder if I was given an appropriate office environment & amount of time to work if I’d be able/willing to do all the work it would take to get Silber to the level I want it to be.

So I got in the Remora discs for sale, but the promo copies came with just the discs & the artwork won’t be in until next week (shipping snafu).  So I got the pre-orders out, but I’m still waiting to run the promo.

Working on the proof reading for the next QRD (it’ll be a comic special).  Hoping to get that out early next week.

I’m working on updates to the website adding all the recent reviews.  I should get all of those up tomorrow.

Last Night’s Dreams:
My printer needs a green toner cartridge.  WTF?  Green has nothing to do with CMYK!

I’m at a recording studio with Brian McKenzie (Electric Bird Noise), Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, & a drummer wearing Peter Criss’s makeup but is not Peter Criss.  For some reason I’m responsible for coming up with the riffs & lyrics that will become the next Kiss album as some sort of ghostwriter.

One Response to Working & Dreams

  1. GoddakkAttack says:

you should totally do a music video for your new album based on this concept. sort of like that paul mccartney video where he’s playing all 100 performers on a stage and when they close up hey look it’s paul. cept you’ll be in kiss makeup instead of a dressed like a scare crow or whatever.

Facebook, Robert E. Howard, Lost Kisses, Remora, Tiny Mix Tapes, Outer Limits, Sun Ra, Dreams

So starting today I’m trying to actually use Facebook “properly” to do some stuff with Silber as I kinda like the way the new groups stuff works.  So here’s the Silber Records fan page & the Silber Records group page for all of you fine folks to join.  I’m going to make an attempt to spend some time in the chat room thing on the group page on a regular basis.

I got in a cover for the Robert E. Howard comic!  So now I have to just lay it out.  I actually did some more comic reviewer research today, wrote a first draft for a one off story, & drew some more of Lost Kisses #22.  I also found another potential new collaborator.  So a lot of comic book stuff done today.

In other Robert E. Howard news I finally ordered the biography of Howard written by his ex-girlfriend, which should give me more insight for writing a pseudo-auto-bio comic about the man.

The Silber ad on Tiny Mix Tapes is supposed to go live soon.  I think it’s 50,000 impressions.  We’ll see if it generates interest, sales, web traffic.  I hope so as I always liked TMT & would prefer to pay to see Silber ads on it instead of Honda ads if it’s practical.

The new Remora album is supposed to come in tomorrow.  Which means a lot of work to do as far as getting everything ready for the promo mailings as I was holding off mailing out the Azalia Snail & Electric Bird Noise to save some money on shipping.  Anyone around the Raleigh area interested in coming over one evening to help with assembly & stickering promos & sexy stuff like that, let me know.  Anyone not in Raleigh interested in helping do a little research over the internet (I usually issue projects that take about 4 hours), let me know.

The new issue of Lost Kisses (which is slightly sci-fi) has a reference to this Sun Ra song, so now it’s stuck in my head:

I just saw this episode of The Outer Limits that is pretty weird & awesome even by Outer Limits standards:

Last Night’s Dreams:
I’m on tour with Chrissy Kotsopoulos & Brian McKenzie (Electric Bird Noise) & have gotten separated from them at an after party the previous night.  I’m in a trailer & I can’t find anyone in it.  I call McKenzie trying to figure out where I am & I find a piece of mail, but the address reads “134 AB-CXY/GHSD, NK 328″ so I’m not sure what country that even puts me in.  I walk outside & see two women walking & ask them what town I’m in & one says, “Superia.”  I tell McKenzie over the phone that I’m in Superior & the woman corrects me that I’m in “Superia.”  Over the phone I hear McKenzie starting up the car & starting to swear & then he says it doesn’t matter where I am because somebody stole the GPS & he won’t be able to find me anyway.  Crap.

I’m on tour with my grandmother & it’s time for soundcheck but I’m in the parking lot with her leaning back in a chair & I’m cleaning bits of popcorn out of her teeth with my fingers.

My Brother’s Guns & Knives, Facebook, Podcast, Sarah June

So here’s a link to the promised photos for the My Brother’s Guns & Knives EP.

I was chatting with Ian Stewart today via the new Facebook Autoreverse group & I’m thinking about trying to get the Silber group on Facebook going as it seems to function as fun/useful in a way I didn’t know it could.  Of course there’s a problem that I’m not an administrator of the Silber group because Facebook killed my original account.  So I need to see if I can get that fixed first.

I’ve also been talking with Nick Marino (Super Haters) about doing a series of podcasts about making comics.  I’ll let you know more when I know more.  Not sure exactly how it will work out or how long it will go on or even for 100% if it will happen.  But it seems like it would be worth dedicating 5 hours of my life to trying something new.

Here’s a demo of a new song Sarah June recently put up.

Remora & QRD

Did some work on the artwork for the Remora My Brother’s Guns & Knives EP & I’ll get some photos up here at some point.  Sent out reminders to people about doing the remixes.  We’ll see what happens.

I started working on proofing the interviews for the next comic issue of QRD & sent out some emails to folks about interviews & got some people emailing me saying to stop spamming them because I sent them three emails requesting an interview over the course of five months.  Weird what people consider spam.  I guess it’s another sign that I don’t need to push QRD so hard anymore.

I’ve been in a weird mood lately where I feel like I have no purpose or things to look forward to.  Got to figure out a way to bust out of that funk….

people cure that by having babies. i hear it works at least until they’re teenagers.

  2. Yeah, I miss curing it by playing music. But I haven’t really had the ability to play music much or do anything much with my life situation & missing sleeping periods taking care of my grandmother certainly isn’t helping any.

Comics & Robots

So I finally got my layout done for a comic that Lindsay Smith is thinking about drawing for me.  Pretty stoked about getting something actually accomplished & out of my hands.  It’s called “End of the World” & I don’t know if it’s going to be a one shot or not.  We’ll see how it feels after it’s done.

I did some fooling around with some robot vocals I added to a couple Electric Bird Noise tracks.  I’ll have to get permission from Brian McKenzie about putting them up on the blog.  They might end up instrumentals instead.

I’ve been working on this interview most of the day & maybe I’ll finish it up tomorrow.  It seems to be getting a bit in depth as far as asking about my artistic process, which is interesting.  I was scared because the first question was “Tell us about yourself.”

I got in touch with a couple potential collaborators today (one for a comic & one for music).  I can feel myself stretching a little thin, but it feels nice to be wanted.

Got some work done researching new comic reviewers & updating some radio contacts.  I really need some interns/helpers with that if anyone has a couple free hours on the internet to help.

Ryan Kuehn (WCSB) posted this on my Facebook page the other day.  It’s kinda long, but also funny.

your title makes me think you should start writing comics for robots. not sure what they’d enjoy but probably something logical.

Or maybe that’s not such a good example. But yeah, I should do more stuff for robots because I like robots.

REH, Bricks, Dreams

So I’m working on the REH comic.  Trying to get a cover that both me & Andrew White (the artist) like, batting 5 or 6 ideas around.  But it’ll get done soonish.

Finally got a draft of the Remora press release to a level I felt comfortable showing it to people for comments.

I’m thinking about making a version of the Silber site run on WordPress so that it works easier on mobile phones.  Not sure if it’s really worth it or not.  But once I get to the point there’s nothing else I need to do.

Spent a lot of the day swiping some bricks destined for the landfill from a torn down house to use building some stuff in the yard.  Breaking the mortar off them so bricks can be re-used seems like something I could do for 8 hours a day if someone would pay me for it.

Last Night’s Dreams:
Peter Aldrich’s guitar is out of tune & to tune them rather than using the tuning pegs, he adjusts his socks.  It works.

There’s a really friendly bartender that I can’t tell if I actually am friends with me outside of the bar.  He’s been holding a drink at the bar for me when I went out for a three hour errand.  The drink tastes like a mix between lemonade & vomit.

Andy Richter is a beach cop just wearing speedos & a cop hat & he’s interrogating me in a little room on a pier.  He keeps reaching into his speedo to pull out his notebook & pen & gun & such.
