Productive day today.

Did some more follow ups on the Hotel Hotel & Northern Valentine.  Those of you reading this blog regularly are starting to see how much work is put into promoting new releases here at Silber I suppose.

Did the mastering of the slicnaton/northern valentine/remora collaboration (tentatively titled Clear Field) which you starz will get to hear next week as part of our MP3 release series.  Still working on mastering Northern Valentine’s Stars Whisper for the same series.  & I have almost all of the audio loaded on my computer for the the Christmas comp.

Helped Shane Sauers a bit with his website.  He’s the guy from Miss Massive Snowflake & he also is the guy who did the art for Alan Sparhawk’s solo guitar & Hotel Hotel’s The Sad Sea.  Check his new page out here.

Got a phone call this morning that my brother’s brother-in-law wanted to give me his old bass.  So that’s pretty sweet.  I’m not sure if it’s going to be better than my Washburn, but I imagine it is better than my Lotus.  I wasn’t told what kind it is.

Mastering in a coalmine

So I guess I should go ahead & mention the “big news” to start some buzz.  I’ve been talking to Jon DeRosa a bit lately & it looks like he’s going to be putting out a new Aarktica record in the style of No Solace in Sleep this summer right here on Silber.  More news on that over the next few months of course.

Working on mastering all the stuff for the MP3 series.  I need to just get it done, I feel like I’m spending more time complaining about it than it would actually take to do it.

I’m kinda looking around for a reverb pedal to replace my Alesis Nanoverb.  I’m pretty happy with the wash I get with it on the plate settings turned up to 75%, but I’m not too happy with the lack of a bypass switch (as I’m essentially using it as a pedal) or that it seems to really be quiet coming out even with the volume turned up all the way or that it uses a proprietary power supply that can’t be easily replaced with something I can plug into a wall in Europe.  Any suggestions?

Christmasing

Well, over the course of 24 hours the Christmas comp went from ten tracks to over twenty tracks.  Still need to find the stuff to modify for the artwork.  I’m thinking about using “christmasong” as the title.  You’d think I’d know the name further in advance than this.  What do you think?

Finally updated some stuff on the Silber website (catalog pages & review pages).

Hoping to get a lot done tonight, we’ll see what happens.

Driving

Spent the day going shopping with my brother, sister-in-law, & niece & then drove back home.  A couple years ago I gave my brother a copy of Queens of the Stone Age’s Songs for the Deaf & he gave it back to me today.  It’s funny because I think it’s the best rock album since Guns ‘n’ Roses Appetite for Destruction & I can’t understand him not liking it, but then I remember that I think Jandek writes  pop music.

I was trying to listen to some Silber tunes in the car today & realized it’s not too possible to listen to music that subtle when there is wind noise.  Not sure where people listen to our music, might be part of the reason I have trouble marketing it.  Where do you listen to indie ambient or whatever you call the music we do?

slower days

So this weekend I’m spending down at my brother’s house with minimal Silber work (two hours or so a day).  It always puts things back in perspective to see people not so focused on their music or whatever.

Meanwhile on the way down I did a recording session with Will Dodson (recording as Charles DeMar) for the Christmas comp.

Today I made my first trip looking for Christmas junk to modify for the Silber Christmas comp cover & had no luck.  I really need to come up with a comp name….

straight hussle

Finished making the files necessary for using Soleilmoon for a distributor.  Hopefully that will be a dead on match.  Contacted a few other possible distros today.  I’m realizing that I need to get a lot more discs out of my house & I haven’t really tried to push for more distros since about 5 years ago.  I’ve worked with a few distros fairly successfully, but after four or five burns I stopped fighting for more; but that’s the risk of business & in a way stolen CDs are no less valuable than unsold ones in my basement.  & I guess if I really am trying to help the bands on Silber (including myself) get to the next level, this is what I should be doing.

Went to a performance art thing today.  Maybe it’s because I’m used to playing whenever I’m in a venue or maybe I’m just an egomaniac, but sometimes it feels hard to not get on stage.  &, once again maybe because I’m an egomaniac, I feel I give more entertainment for the money.

I was productive until…

Got all the orders out today, so that’s a good thing.

Finished my little new radio table.  I’ll be posting a bulletin about it tomorrow.

Finished (hopefully) the art & press release for Remora’s Ensoulment.

Got a thing from the bank today saying my account is overdrawn.  I’ve had the same account since I was 7 & my mom’s name is still on it because I never bothered to get it taken off.  When my mom recently needed to get a new ATM card the bank gave her one that was for my account, the bank says they’ll fix it & wave the fees & they also said, “This happens all the time, it’s no big deal.”  Really, it happens all the time?  I’m glad I’m at such an organized bank….

New Work? I ain’t done with the old work!

So I got picked up (at least on a trial basis) by a couple more distros.  Which means a lot of paperwork both to set them up in my system & give them everything they need for Silber to be set-up in theirs.  I feel like I’m just a few days behind, but will I ever catch up?

another day

Today I started working on a little table to add to my site to help people listen to streams of the stations that play Silber with links for requesting our songs.  Kinda trying to stuff the ballot box on things like the pro labels do.

Just keeping up with emails & orders seems to take all day lately.  Hopefully that means things will get into the black by the end of the year.

Anyone have any ideas for a title for this year’s Christmas compilation?
