Balloons?

So I’m looking into getting some custom balloons made for promo.  I mean, who doesn’t want a balloon with the Silber logo?

I proofed twelve interviews for the new QRD.  It’s getting to the point that I can start assembling the issue.  Do you guys prefer the issue format where I release a bunch of articles at once or should I switch to a more blog format with the interviews coming out one at a time?

Starting to do some work to help assemble a CD collecting digital comics for next year’s SPACE.  I’m probably biting off more than I can chew.  At the same time I’m looking into making digital versions of my comics available for pay download.

Trying to get everything organized for the music for the  Smithfield Summer Art Fair.  It should be a great show (that no one will see).

Starting to try to get some quotes for manufacturing the upcoming set of discs.

I got in the newest test copy for the Lost Kisses DVD.  Need to check it out still.

Another Productive Day

Going to try to rework the kids song to be a little less dark.  We’ll see if it works out.

Did the final drafts for Just a Man #2 & Worms #4 & sent them to the artists for drawing.

Contacted a few distros today about trying to expand the empire.  Of course at this point it is generally going back to people who have not wanted to work with me in the past for unknown reasons (e.g. Forced Exposure, Revolver, & ADA), but maybe something will happen.

Still working on expanding the promo list for the upcoming releases.  Speaking of which, helping me on updating the promo list is our brand new intern Ben Collins.

Doing some work on the new QRD.  About ten interviews in so far with a few more promised.  Hoping put it live on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

So I’ve been thinking about trying to start doing a free internet comp thing in association with each issue of QRD & trying to make QRD come out every month.  What do you guys think?

boopity boop

So I spent four hours working on the potential kid song & I’m pretty sure it’s not usable as a kid song.  Not sure what I think of it as a song in general either at the moment.  Lately I’ve been thinking that maybe I should abandon the idea of recording albums & just pretend it’s the 1980s & just do 4 song things.

Trying to get some stuff done.  We’ll see….

Changing some working patterns

Registered a couple pieces on BMI today.  Need to start putting up more.

I was asked to write a song that will be a potential theme song for a kids’ show.  It’ll be more like Remora’s “Songs I Sing” than anything in the Small Life Form catalog.

I got a pretty incredibly looking art-object/cd-r from Derek Hanson today.  I’m trying to find out about how he made it & if it is feasible to do something like it for a release.

I got in some distro checks today for over $1000.  So it makes some of the releases seem much more likely.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a smooth day with getting a bunch of things done, but those days seem few & far between lately.  I need to get back on the schedule of making lists of things to do & getting them done in an organized manner rather than trying to tread water on a million things at once.

Sorta

I got this big project of going through a couple hundred links from a friends’ website for contacting some new hip music reviewers I hadn’t previously been in touch with for the next set of releases.  Also going through some more comic reviewer contacts.

Last night I did a little photoshoot with my son for the upcoming Father’s Day QRD.

Another email getting the Remora Mecha CD a little closer to coming out.  I need to mail some CD hubs tomorrow for helping to build the boxes.

I hate that whenever I work on anything seriously for a day or two that I get a hundred messages behind in my email.  What am I going to do when I start to do more promo junk & have a much fuller email box than I do now?  It seems like intern jobs may get more serious….

fun/interesting

I got the rough draft of Just a Man #2 written.  I think I might be putting in a few too many hidden guns (basically foreshadowing) in the story.  But I guess it helps me have definitive places to go in a continuing story.  Of course it is supposed to be a limited series, so hopefully I can get it all done in the space of issues (currently unspecified).

Did some more mixing/mastering for the Sarah June record.  It’s funny how I’ll spend more time working on something I’m not getting financially compensated for than something I am.  I think I’m supposed to reverse that.

The shows went well over the weekend.  Maybe it’s just because I was never really over-exposed to it, but I find electro-clash fun/interesting.

Back to work, still need to do some things for the Vlor record & getting the new Worms & Just a Man ready to be drawn.

Just a day of working

So the solve of the German package mystery is that the customer filled out the paperwork for import tax (the stuff that was attached on the outside), but the German post lost it for a couple months & then returned it to me.  The guy is paying me for return shipping & placed another order.  So I guess I win?

Spent the whole day researching for some new contacts for reviews.  I think I’m getting to have a really out of control list (a few thousand contacts).  Maybe it will pay off when the new releases happen.

Playing a Remora show tomorrow & a Small Life Form show on Saturday.  I should probably practice….

A Productive Day

Got some more work done on Sarah June’s record.  I have some real hopes for it to be Silber’s magic bullet.  I mean, I’ve never released something with commercial appeal where the artist was willing/able to tour.

Hotel Hotel had their show in Montreal canceled today & I did some scrambling to try to get a house show, but two days notice in another country makes things seem unlikely.  Still there are two leads, so I feel like I’m doing my part as a label at that point.

Got the Remora & Small Life Form tracks in for the 919noise comp.  Just need to get some stuff ready for another comp now.

Finally put up the Remora’s Derivative album for sale at silbermedia.  I’m having some issues getting it set up for digital distribution.  I was told the barcode was invalid, so I paid $20 for a new one & they won’t let me change the barcode number because it doesn’t match the one on the disc.   Yummy headaches.

Got a message from Moodring that they are currently doing the assembly of the disc.  I guess I need to get on the ball about creating a webpage for them on my site.

Sent out some copies of Just a Man (my western comic) to Andrew White (the artist) to see if anything needs to be altered because of how much the images are shrunk down.  I’m pretty happy with it.

Got a little distro order to send out today.  Always nice when there’s some money coming in since that seems a little more rare lately than it used to be.  I also found a couple new distributor leads.  We’ll see what happens.

Talked to Brian McKenzie (Electric Bird Noise) about trying to work in the Remora versus Electric Bird Noise recording session into our schedule.  We’ll see what happens as we’ve been talking about it on a regular basis for about two years now.

On the Vlor front, Michael from MWVM wanted to re-work his track a bit as far as EQ-ing.  I got that back & will need to do some re-working on my end to make sure it still fits volume wise with the rest of the album.

I got a German order from February returned to me in the mail today.  The package was unopened, but it had some paperwork attached to it that included a copy of the Paypal receipt for the order & some German I could not read (meaning it said something other than scheitzeschluass (sp?)).  Perhaps the mystery will be solved by contacting the customer….

Today will end with creative content

It feels like a successful show if you sell merch, regardless of the attendance these days.

Doing some more work on the Sarah June record today.

Working on some Remora & Small Life Form tracks for compilations.

Getting the Worms #4 script ready for Kimberlee Traub to start drawing.

Busy day….

Burning Fingers

So probably the most important thing I did today is burn three fingers on my left hand making sweet potato fries.  Luckily I only need to use one finger for half the songs in the Remora catalog.  Maybe they’ll be better by tomorrow for the show anyway.

Worked some more on mastering & stereofying the Sarah June album.  It’s funny because I’m giving it a lot more attention than I ever do my own work.

I don’t know why, but I’m feeling good lately about the future of Silber.  We’ll see what happens.

I just watched Breaking Bad & I really wish this was the last season, it’s starting to feel like something’s not quite right with the standard comic book convention of, “Let’s introduce a character so we can kill them off.”  Also knowing that there will be a whole other season makes it seem more formulaic & just makes me lose interest a bit.  What’s good about the story is that we all know that it can only end with Walter dying, but him lasting with his lifestyle for several years is unrealistic.  But I was kinda happy to see Jesse’s girlfriend die because she kinda annoyed me & seemed unrealistic anyway.

In other TV news, what is up with the last thirty seconds of the Terminator TV show where someone off screen just says, “I love you?”
