Over the past several months we’ve had a huge amount of demos coming in.  We’ve been having trouble listening to all the material & would like to make a public apology to anyone we haven’t contacted back. We have went ahead and setup an new marketing plan with the best SEO reseller company we could find to get this material to reach more people.

Still

So I’m working trying to get some things done, but somehow having less & less energy to do them & enjoying sleep more & more. I’m getting addicted to the dreams I have in the nine minutes that pass between when I push the snooze button on my alarm clock. I need to start writing them all down, but I’m lazy. Anyway, a lot of new releases next year & we’re trying to get everything ready for you.

New Music from Mike Van Portfleet & Rollerball plus a Remora classic for free

We are now offering monthly downloads of classic out-of-print Silber releases, complete with original artwork! The first in this series is Remora’s 1998 cassette-only release Amerse.

Mike VanPortfleet‘s post-Lycia debut Beyond the Horizon Line is available now. Deep, dark, aquatic ambient from the lonesome Southwest.

Rollerball‘s Behind the Barber was our soundtrack for the summer. Stylus Magazine says:
“This is moon music, dark and moody, the sound of witches gathered around a blazing fire shouting spells at the devil. It’s quite possibly their best LP yet.” We say it’s blistering and brooding psychedelic free-jazz…and oh man, it’s good.

I’m lazy, so there’s nothing that can stop me now

I never update or use this site to my advantage like I should. Oh well. In the past 4 months a lot has gone on. The Rollerball CD is out & the Mike VanPortfleet disc is out. We re-designed the website (www.silbermedia.com). I put out a special zine called “Lost Kisses” for an exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Art (view a busted version at www.silbermedia.com/lostkisses ). There’s a new QRD up at www.silbermedia.com/qrd I’ve been working on the new Remora record for a while. 24 songs recorded so far I think, I’m shooting for thirty before I start mixing down & deciding on what tracks will be on the album. I’m looking for people to do artwork for Zombie Kisses if anyone’s interested….

News from Rollerball, Jamie Barnes, Remora, Small Life Form, Origami Arktika

As some of you may know Roadcone was a great avant/experimental label, which after 10 years of superb releases, closed its doors last year. We at Silber are very happy & proud to say we got to grab a hold of the incredible Roadcone staple Rollerball & will be putting out their new album Real Hair this fall. It’s an amazing record, & really difficult to describe. Brian (who’s been in touch with Shane from Rollerball for about nine years now, ever since discovering his zine “StarbageCan”) describes it as “no-wave lounge music”. Keep your eyes peeled for a Silber artist page for them very soon.

Our other new signee comes from Louisville, Kentucky and his name is Jamie Barnes. Yes, it’s true, you would probably call him a singer/songwriter. His demos blew us away, and we’ll be releasing his debut album later this year.

The Small Life Form album may finally be completed. It’s seven tracks & each track is basically one chord. For those who like the feeling of intoxication caused by ringing in their ears, this will be your favorite record. It is tentatively schedule for fall release.

Origami Arktika is working on a new album this summer & the Norwegian government is actually paying for them to record it. If that sounds crazy, then you know it must be a great record.

I’ve been really busy lately & Silber has become a little higher profile & I really haven’t had time to pay proper attention to the demos we’ve been sent nor to review the discs we’ve been sent to review for QRD. I’m sorry, but it may take forever to get caught up at this rate.

Remora has been on tour & people are asking about getting to hear some of the live tracks. I’m thinking about it. My European tour diary is supposedly going to be in Mouthy Magazine, but if not I’ll put it online.

People have been telling me I should use a distortion pedal to create distortion rather than playing instruments so hard they get damaged. I haven’t figured out if this goes against my principals or not.

I’ve been working on a collaboration with Nathan Amundson (Rivulets). I think they’re pop songs, but Nathan says I’m wrong about that. We’ll see what all happens as there are other people set to collaborate on it.

There’s a new issue of Zombie Kisses up & I’m working on re-writing the screenplay & some other related stuff.

We finally did get some Remora shirts based on Robotech: Macross Mecha. They’re pretty awesome.

This year Remora is going to be doing a string of EPs for limited-run European labels as well as attempting to do a new album. There’ve been a lot of songs written over the past couple years & very few recorded.

Silber is planning an enormous compilation of 21st century classical music by young composers.

Clang Quartet, If Thousands, Aarktica, Kobi, QRD, Vlor, Zombie Kisses, Small Life Form, The Undermasks

This fall/winter (depending on where you live) will be a busy one. We don’t have the definitive release dates yet, but we do have the following releases in our hands that are just waiting for some minor artwork changes before being sent to the plants for manufacturing:

Clang Quartet – The Separation of Church & Hate
Long-time fans may remember this was originally an EP. The whole album was re-recorded & 5 extra tracks were added, making this CQ’s first new album in over 2 years.

If Thousands – Lullaby
If Thousands’ follow-up to 2001′s Candice Recorder. This is one piece of music designed for falling asleep to. If you attended Elegy you know what this is about. An absolute drone fantasy.

Kobi – Projekto
Kobi is a project of Kai from Origami Arktika. When he sent Silber the demos he said it was based on two ideas: (a) collaborative music is equal to more than the individual musicians and (b) the fact that the western music scale is based on twelve notes is absurd. Here, he collaborates with all sorts of all-stars like Lasse Marhug & our good friend Tore Boe.

Aarktica – Pure Tone Audiometry
On the latest release, Aarktica has perfected the balance between “drone” & “song,” still without the use of synthesizers. This time cellos, basses, violins and harmoniums (as well as guitars) create the backdrop for DeRosa’s breathy vocals. Proof that Aarktica is at the forefront of new music. Guest appearances by Andrew Prinz & Lorraine Lelis of Mahogany, Ernie Adzentovich of Plexus, Hadley Kahn of Escapade, and Charles Newman of Flare.

QRD #22 (aka “The Silber Issue”) is now online & features interviews with your favorite Silber artists. QRD #23 is already underway & will include interviews with Chris Olley of Six By Seven as well as Tara & Mike of Lycia.

Zombie Kisses is kicking it this fall. We’re shooting for three issues to be out around Halloween. Zombie Kisses #5 continues Barry & Erika’s search for a new home in Chicago. We started a new spin-off series called Zombie Kisses: Big City Nights that takes place in New York City & is generally a lot darker than the main series has been. More violence & a little less emotional confusion. Then there’s a one-shot called Zombie Kisses: 62 years after death that takes place two generations after the zombies have been around & society isn’t doing that great. I’ve been told it’s the most disturbing ZK thing yet. I guess it probably is. Oh, ZK#1 is back in print.

Zombie Kisses is also going to start taking submissions. If your name is not John O’Brien or Joe Lansdale, we’ll probably write up a bunch of stuff about problems we have with it even if I like it & plan to use it. So I’m looking for stories for Early Nights & Big City Nights & potentially for some ongoing stories. We are also looking for graphic artists to illustrate the covers.

In other ZK news, we are planning on doing a compilation CD for ZK #10 so go ahead and start thinking about it. Send stuff to: ZK / PO Box 18062 / Raleigh, NC 27619 & include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The Undermasks (Silber’s all-star no-wave band) might be forming to do a one-off show. We’ll give you more info on that as we find out.

The new Vlor record is actually being worked on for the first time in a couple years. The collaborators have been selected & will be sent tracks to work on early next year, which will give us a view of when it could come out next summer.

Small Life Form is having a tougher time everyday on the album. Mainly because SLF wants to show up great bands like If Thousands & Origami Arktika that are getting better everday. It’ll happen though & it’ll drone you out like a bee with honey.

I’ve actually heard a couple of records recently that are really good & I’m obsessing about them a little. One is Neil Young’s Harvest. The other is Six by Seven’s The Way I Feel Today.

Do you like the Silberspy graphic when he’s fat or skinny? Skinny, right? I mean who’d want to see a naked fat alien bird?
