Okay, so the new QRD is up to read.  It includes interviews with Hotel Hotel, Sarah June, Nicholas Slaton, Northern Valentine, Andrew Weathers, Melissa Spence Gardner, Lisa Uber, & myself.

Hotel Hotel had another interview that just went up over at Delusions of Adequacy.

I can’t remember if I put the link up before but here’s the trailer for the movie Hemo that features a ton of Silber songs in the soundtrack.

Made a bunch more minis & started to package up some promos.  I need to print a bunch more as I miscalculated the number I had.

I need to do my quarterly taxes & paperwork & also finish up my 2009 taxes to turn in.  Bleh.

Mini-Comics

Wrote the press release for sending out the current batch of mini-comics for promo (Lost Kisses #7 & #8 & Worms #3) & sent out emails to about 30 potential new reviewers for it.  I wonder if I do more promoting comics than real publishers….

Got the newest test copy of the Lost Kisses DVD.  I’m kinda scared to even look at it.  But I have my fingers crossed.

Did the layout for the printable version of Lost Kisses #9.  Things could be much worse for getting those done in time for SPACE.

cameras, downloads, other things

So I watched the Lost Kisses DVD & it generally seems acceptable.  Just a couple of minor things to fix in the credits page to make that more legible.  So maybe it will be sent for manufacturing by the time I originally had as a release date.

Spent the day doing more contacting of the folks who are hosting illegal downloads of Silber releases.  It’s interesting to me that people post the commercial releases, but not the free ones.  I mean, if you are going to say, “I’m doing this to help spread the word about this great band,” why not use the free EP of out-takes that the label created for that very purpose?  So speaking of this, if you are a seeder on any of the file sharing sites, help us out & post stuff from www.silbermedia.com/downloads

Just ordered the proprietary cable to hook up my Sony video camera to a computer, but I’m not even sure if that will make it be able to hook it up to my computer because it reads like they made proprietary drivers for the Sony Vaio or something on the “complaints about the camera site.”  The moral of the story is that you can’t buy a camera off of specs & positive reviews, you need to know somebody using it for the same thing that you do.

A million things to get done today, hopefully less tomorrow.

QRD TV

Indie ambient band Northern Valentine is still close in the running for band of the month in Deli.  Help them out by voting for them here.  Just one day left to go, & last I checked they’re down by about 20 votes.

Worked on QRD TV last night, shooting two test episodes.  In the next week or two we’ll hopefully figure out how things look & how to make things work well enough to have a presentable program.  It did take longer than anticipated with around 4.5 hours for shooting two episodes & who knows how long in post, but I’m pretty satisfied.  Most importantly it seemed like a success from the standpoint of the people involved having a good time.

Speaking of QRD, I’m working on the current issue at the moment.  Hopefully it will be mostly up in the next two days.  Still waiting on a couple interviews to come in that were supposed to be finished over the weekend.

do something patriotic, buy music

So I got an email from Hotel Hotel today about there disc being pirated on Rapidshare.  So I contacted Rapidshare about taking the file down & deleting that user’s account.  Maybe one day I’ll stop fooling around & start suing people like I’m Warner Brothers.  Let’s see, 50 downloads would earn me $350.  I mean, when I give a free live album plus a free track from the studio album, you can’t really play the “just wanted to check it out” card, can you?  I don’t know.  Would people be as willing to not pay for the music if they new how much PD Wilder needs a couple hundred dollars for a new guitar?

Speaking of people not spending money, why can’t Obama come out like Bush & say, “Do something patriotic, go shopping.”  Maybe make it more specific & say, “Do something patriotic, go see the nearest weirdo music show & buy some merch from them.”

Folded some more mini-comics today.

Potentially booked some shows for Remora on the way to & from Columbus.  We’ll see what happens.

I had a dream last night where Michael Gira was interviewing me in a class room on a college campus before I played a show.  Weird.

Wrote up some questions to add an interview with Andrew Weathers for the new QRD.

I ordered three new pedals today.  An envelope filter, a reverb pedal, & a ring modulator for a total of $150.

Not sure what else to say for today.  Just tired sometimes.

QRD-ing

So today I was working on the new QRD (issue 39 for those keeping count).  I wonder sometimes if I should go away from the issue format & to the blog format that most people use these days.  I like the idea of unleashing 6 interviews at once, but obviously it would be nice to get the interviews up as soon as possible.  While editing the interviews I realized two of the interviews aren’t back in yet.  I guess I should be a little less laid back on people getting the answers back to me.

Northern Valentine is still in a tight race for Phillie band of the month for the Deli Magazine.  Vote for them here.

comics & music – is there anything else?

Worked on the layout for my western comic today.  The tentative title is “Just a Man.”  Sent it to the artist, so just waiting on it to come back.

I also worked on a Star Wars fan fiction mini-comic with my nephew.  It doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it’s hard to know how much I should collaborate because I don’t want to take it over.

Wrote a couple more parts for the new Remora.  Trying to force myself to hold the guitar more somehow ends up with me writing more songs.

Did a little research trying to find some more review outlets & small mail order distros, we’ll see if any of them pan out.

Going to have to re-master some of the Carta songs.  It’s kinda refreshing to have someone who’s music is delicate enough that it’s hard to work with, but a little frustrating also.  I’m sure in the end it will be worth it.  I keep thinking I need to buy a house in the middle of nowhere & make it a Silber compound with a recording studio for the bands on the roster & then I don’t run into problems with so much noise on some of the original recordings.  I don’t know, I’m not a real engineer, but maybe more of an engineer than some people who claim to be.

wait, I’m actually writing songs?

So I mastered the alternate mixes for Carta.  Still waiting to hear back.  Really large downloads get funny sometimes.

In theory the mastered DVD for review is coming tomorrow.  I’m still a little leary of it.

So the “real” or “normal” or “regular” Remora record I worked on a little today.  I’ve been recording these little ten second vocal ideas for about a year (some of which I don’t recognize as being written by me & some of which are too dark for even me to use (I had a chorus on a song that was “watching you murder men makes me want to have babies with you” – what (& who) the fuck is that about?)) & I wrote guitar parts for maybe four or five of them today.  It’s making me think about trying to do a straight laced tour where I do traditional songs with an acoustic guitar.  Cuts down on my equipment to lug around.  It depends if I can get it worked up enough to think it would be entertaining to people.  Also, I’ve been warning people for years, but the new Remora might have some drums on it.  Or maybe I’ll pretend I’m Bruce Springsteen & record it in a hotel room.

A few weeks ago I got the Kinks greatest hits, because I know a lot of people I respect that are a bit older than me are into them.  They aren’t my thing I guess.  Closer to the Beatles than the Rolling Stones.

high slow speeds

Went through the first attempt of mastering the Carta album.  Uploading it now for the band to check out.  They gave me some alternate mixes that I’ll master tomorrow.  They’re album is a lot different to master than some others I’ve done because it has a lot of subtleties & it’s hard to crank the volume without losing what makes it special.  Maybe it’s just that it takes a few hours to get my ears in the right mode.

Trying to work through a mental block keeping me from getting motivated lately.  Hopefully more will get done tomorrow.
