So today was a lovely day of printing press kits for Northern Valentine & Electric Bird Noise & then folding them up & inserting them in the promo CDs.  Tomorrow should hopefully be putting blurb stickers on them, we’ll see what all happens.

Trying to get things organized for the potential Chinese tour next fall.  We’ll see what happens.  I think I need to get my forms in by next week to do it.

I was thinking of having a politics oriented issue of QRD, but after discussing it with several people I have realized I shouldn’t do it at such a politically charged time.  So maybe next fall I’ll help you all realize that anarchism intellectually makes sense & is closer to the right than the left (at least in the United States).

There’s a lot I need to do, but I’m not sure how to get it all done these days.  I guess I’m like everyone else.

A few things done

Got a few things done today, which is always nice.

Compiled a list of Greek contacts for Plumerai who are going to be going there shortly.  Interestingly enough I saw that I have twice as many reviewers serviced there as direct orders that I receive from Greece.  I tell you I need to secure good (read as “paying” for those who don’t know how the music industry works) distro in all of Europe one day.

Shipped out a couple orders including the mini-comics for Melissa (which means I finished assembling them).  Realized I need to get some mini-comics for this contest at APE (mini-comic convention in San Francisco).

Finished writing the Northern Valentine press release pending the final band approval.  So I guess I can get things done a little earlier & not be so rushed on some things once the last couple discs to send out for review come in.

Being one with the paper cutter

I hate it when it erases my entry & I need to re-write it.

So I’ve spent what seems like half the day fighting with my Brother HL-5040 Laser Printer trying to convince it to print out the copies of XO for Melissa to sling at the convention in Madison.  The machine is really great for the money, but probably not designed to run a few thousand prints on the cheapest 8.5×11 paper money can buy every month.  Now I’m still working ..ting, folding, stapling, & bagging said issues.  Not really looking forward to making the promo copies of XO & Lost Kisses to mail out next week as I forgot how labor intensive this is.

Laid down to bass parts for the new Remora record.  We’ll see if they get used in the end.

Talked to PD Wilder about the things I need for getting the Hotel Hotel press release ready.  I really need to get that & the one for Northern Valentine done & start soliciting distros & stores.

Yesterday’s Reversal

So today I hunkered down & got through the majority of my backlogged promo stuff that absolutely needed to be done last week.  So I feel like things are going pretty well.

Heard back from a couple folks on the Vlor, always interesting to hear responses like, “I can’t tell which part of this song is mine,” or “It sounds great except for my contributions.”

Heard back from Melissa Spence Gardner & XO4′s art is supposed to be delivered in this week.  Also she’ll be at the zine/comic convention in Madison, WI.  So if you’re there, watch out for her.  Of course this means I need to assemble some mini-comics for her to promote ASAP.

Got the photos for finishing up the Northern Valentine press kit.  So I should knock that out tomorrow.  I need to get started on the Hotel Hotel one.

Unfortunately Little

Didn’t get as much done today as I had hoped too.  Ends up my hard drive doesn’t have enough space on it to work on the SLF right now, so I have to do some hard drive cleaning to prep that.  I did manage to make a new Small Life Form avatar from scanning in some prints from a shirt design I abandoned.

Also I did some website updates including adding some of the new staff members to the about page & info on the news site which I somehow didn’t update for a month again.

& of course I’m still going through some press/radio updates for the upcoming mailings.

Northern Valentine is husband & wife Robert & Amy Brown along with friends who join them from time to time. They have been writing & recording music since 1997 & have released material previously on acclaimed label Gears of Sand as well as on their own label Baresound.  We are glad to have them added to the Silber roster. They are from Philadephia, Pennsylvania & they love to play live shows. Depending on the performers, live shows can range from quiet and meditative drones to loud & fuzzy instrumental post rock, often within the same set.

Their music has drawn comparisons to other artists, ranging from Labradford, Windy & Carl, Ennio Morricone, & Eluvium to Mogwai, Seefeel, Earth, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, & Spacemen 3.

The Hotel Hotel disc The Sad Sea is out for manufacturing & should be here in a couple of weeks.

The new Vlor, six-winged, is going through the mixing & mastering process.

Remora is currently recording a new album entitled Hurtless.

Lame Days

So I finally got the files for the Small Life Form recording swapped over to a form I could use (see yesterday’s entry).  I probably spent about 7 hours working on it in the end, which is absolutely ridiculous.  But then I should be able to work on it in the next couple of days.

Talked to Joe Kendrick (music director of WNCW) about whether or not I need to cut apart letter pressed CDs & repackage them in jewel cases to secure more airplay.  Thankfully the answer was, “No.”  The reason in the end is that they’d be easier to access, but they’d look amateur.

Talked to Shane Sauers (Starbage Hands, Northpole Records) & the letterpressed postcards for the next batch of releases are done & I should be getting them shortly so I can start working on the promos.  Also the Hote, Hotel letterpress art is done & should be finished next week.

Talked to Nic Slaton (New Music Solutions, slicnaton, Panthan) about partnering up on some post production work services for music.  Also about doing some more work on the Panthan catalog & possibly doing some totally horrible videos.  We’ll see what happens.

Talked to Tony (Handshake Records) about a possible Small Life Form tour in China next fall.  It’s a little up in the air

Set up the “studio” for recording the new Remora album.  But I guess that’s slightly on hold until I mix down the Small Life Form….

I’m looking for some collaborators on a couple mini-comics again.  If you are interested in working with me in a timely manner, please let me know.  One of them has gone through 4 artists without anyone bringing it around to fruition & it’s kind of disconcerting….

3rd Quarter Blues

So here are today’s Silber activities….

Completed third quarter paperwork & filed taxes on it.  For unknown reasons the income was the lowest of any quarter since 2004.  I guess the culprit could be that in the past year there have only been two releases on Silber & both were free download affairs which don’t generate much press usually.  So maybe the batches coming out the next couple of months will fix things a bit.

Sent out royalty checks to the artists on the roster who had money due.

Went to the post office & received seemingly good mail.  Got some money I was owed from a mastering job from a few months ago (still need to check if it covered all of that bill).  I got the DVD with the audio tracks to mix down from the Small Life Form recordings in the Satsop nuclear cooling tower, unfortunately they were done on a Mac & I have a PC & I can’t open them for some reason.  I thought the format wars were over?  I tried to transfer them onto my PC formatted hard drive when I was there & we thought it couldn’t do it because of not being able to power it up because it was USB 2.0, but maybe it’s something else.  Hopefully I’ll get it figured out before I go to sleep.

daily chores

So I’ve decided I want to try to keep a daily blog about my Silber activities all month long.  We’ll see if it works out.

Today I….

Wrote a rough draft of the press release for Northern Valentine’s The Distance Brings Us Closer.

Did rough mixes of Vlor’s six-winged & sent them to the other band members for comments.

Went through web-site statistics for the month of September finding two new large blogger fans.

Went through some messages from people that have contacted me over the past year & a half requesting to be added to the promotions list.
