So Alexa has this toolbar making thing. I’m curious if anyone thinks I should bother to make one. I posted about it on Twitter & Facebook yesterday to absolutely no response. I think the time of doing a toolbar as a neat thing might be pretty 2002.
Still working through the blogger list from Hype Machine to find new contacts. Probably half way through. I’m thinking about making a Silber version of Hype Machine (meaning I pick the involved blogs), if anyone knows how to make an html page that would list entries from a few hundred RSS feeds let me know.
Got out another 900 promo emails out today (my host caps me at 1000 emails a day). So about two more days of sending those out & then a couple days cutting & pasting for all the folks I have to use web contact forms for. I’m not sure if it’s worth the time, but what else am I doing with my time these days.
I was taking care of my niece & nephew tonight & for a bed time story I read my 11 year old nephew a book version of La Jetee. It’s weird to me not so much because that might be a freaky story for a kid so much as my parents stopped reading to me years before I knew how to read & I wonder if my nephew is being coddled. Maybe different folks need different things though & I guess me reading a book to him might make him feel safe & stable since his life situation is pretty unstable because his parents are split up & seem to change rules on him every couple weeks & he’s getting in fights at school & all that. It’s weird to when I think of when I was 11 & how like him I still occasionally played with toys & such, but I was shifting from being into comics to being into music (he’s more into video games than music, which I guess is the way it is these days) & I’d already gotten into alcohol with my friend down the street & would soon be getting into girls & meth. Shoot, I was his age when I met the girl who I would be in an on-again-off-again relationship for over twenty years. So I kinda feel like he’s a child, but when I was his age I was already more or less who I am today which I’m sure is a totally inaccurate thought (maybe by 13 though I was who I am…).
Yeah, the fascination with YouTube is weird to me because I see all these articles about “if you are a musician you should try to become a successful YouTuber to make more money,” while I think the truth is closer to “if you are a successful YouTuber you should think about becoming a musician to make more money.” That said, YouTube is where I go if I want to hear a song from when I was a kid even if I have it on CD somewhere (I still haven’t put things on a computer/MP3 player & I haven’t put my CDs back in order since someone put them in random order 4 years ago). But I haven’t been able to secure 100 views per video I put on there so the idea of it being a place to generate interest (much less sales) seems a long shot. I’m pretty stoked with the Guns & Knives video & hopefully it’ll be able to get some views without me paying for it (like I did for the Vlor video).
